I've only read Wes's first post on this topic.
What immediately jumped out (in relation to tradition in SL era), I really thought Julian O'Neill and Adrian Lam smashed it as a distinctive 6 and 7! There's no doubt the game has developed and changed since 2002 (and obs it was mainly a sole season).
It might seem a wild card, I really thought, even at the wrong side of 30, Jarrod Sammut had lots of potential at 6 (for a questionable recent signing), similar style to Lee Briers (being off the cuff).
Bevan French, I've voted for him tonight simply because he isn't a standoff (depending on how you perceive a modern 6). Just because he has pace to burn, doesn't cut it. He is sensational on the wing or at fullback.
That said, he has as the weeks have gone by developed and shown glimpses of a 6 and tried 100%. He doesn't look out of place because he plays with flair and has an explosive style, but if we could sign a specialist (such as Bodie Croft), would French be there? It feels like we a playing someone at 6 because we can.
Abbas Miski has developed really well and full credit to him, he has a solid frame and score tries, bit his pound for pound individual capability to score 4 tries against Hull KR and I'm sure he planted a few last season against someone too, doesn't put him in a French/Marshall category, overall.
I suppose in short, French outside Wardle and a significant proven 6 (not like Cust at 7 and made of biscuits), would make 2024 with our new recruits
