A good defensive set, and you may have gotten near the 1/2 way line and putting in a kick to try and turn the opposition round on their own line at best. For me, kicking on the 3rd, but more importantly allowing Lewis to catch it on the full and make it to the 40m line was such a shocking play, and automatically HKR were in pole position, and the rest as we know is history
I'd like to see the stats (if there are any kept) for how often the side that receives the ball first in a golden point game wins.

You can't score without the ball so I always thought if you receive the ball first you are quite likely to get a scoring chance with a drop goal effort even if it is long range.

I don't suppose there have been enough golden points games to get a meaningful result statistically anyway.
I think that GP should be scrapped for league games.

Think it should be scrapped period! Never mind the excuse for it that it builds excitement, it’s disappointing when both teams have kicked sh*t out of one another for 80 minutes to be be decided by a drop goal!

If it’s a cup game it should be extra time & go off points at the end of two 10/15 minute extra time plays IMO
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

So do I. If the scores are tied after 80 minutes a draw is virtually guaranteed to be a fair result in RL.

my preference on GP if it needs to stay is that both teams get a point for the draw (think we all agree that it should be this anyway without GP), and then the team that wins get an additional point, so you dont lose the match / get 0 points for slogging your guts out for 80 minutes +

ideally it would be scrapped but an alternative solution if it is retained

I have also thought receiving the ball in GP is a massive disadvantage. The main reason being that the opposition has had a break, rest up and put everything into their defensive set. The result being that the receiving team often have to kick from well within their half.

The team that kicks off then receive the ball back, drive to the posts and have first shot at the drop goal.

I'm not a fan of golden point, but the chances of it being a rapped are pretty much zero.

Given IMG's involvement, doubly so. (That's double zero!)

The reason is that they and the powers-that-be rightly or wrongly believe that what attracts and keeps fans are peak memorable moments in a match. The sudden death, edge-of-your-seat nature of GP is the sort of thing they're after. Nought to do with fairness.

This could be true. The problem with judging by opinions on here is, i suspect, that most of us are owd codgers (I'm 72, around the average :D ). And that's also the problem for RL. If it's going to survive the next 25 or 50 years it needs to attract more younger folk - under 50, say.
Wigan have this problem, as most/all other clubs do.

So, though I personally disagree with it, I understand the reasons for GP.
