That is one permutation. I think it is well known that French is a marquee player and Thompson would also become one. Given Thompson is federation trained, Wigan can have a third marquee player that can be either non-federation trained or federation trained. For example it could be Nathan Cleary or Jack Welsby it doesn’t have to be a club trained player. I hope this makes sense?Wiganer Ted wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 7:58 am If Thompson signs then surely he would be a marquee player?
French would be the non fed trained marquee.
Thompson the fed trained marquee.
Farrell the club trained marquee.
We would then have three marquee places taken with the third being a club trained player.
That's as I understand the marquee ruling now.

Re: Luke Thompson
Thought one spot had to be federation trained the others whatever you like or that's my undestanding? 150k on cap non fed, 100k fed trained, 50k from your own clubs system.

unless Field is on a lot more moneyCharriots Offiah wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:15 pmI don't think Field is marquee. It may be financially beneficial to choose Faz as only £50k would count against the salary cap.

Thought it was said Field was not on marquee money when he resigned. Though he should be now.pedro wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:22 pmunless Field is on a lot more moneyCharriots Offiah wrote: ↑Tue Sep 26, 2023 10:15 pmI don't think Field is marquee. Things feels changing under Danson. Team looks impressive next season best we have had since 2013.
Re: Luke Thompson
The beauty of the team going forward is the ages of the players as well. Not only are we signing good players but we’ve got so many players only just getting towards their peak years. We have the experience of guys like Faz, Isa and Cooper but guys like Field, Wardle, Smith, Havard, Byrne, Dupree, O’Neill, Smithies etc are going to get better and better. I don’t think any of them have hit their peak yet.thegimble wrote: ↑Wed Sep 27, 2023 8:40 amThought it was said Field was not on marquee money when he resigned. Fingers crossed it’s a perfect storm as our lads get towards their peaks, most of Saints best players look to be going past theirs and they’ll have a rebuild job on.
Re: Luke Thompson
Just heard in James Graham podcast that he’s gutted Luke Thompson isn’t going to be an NRL player next season but more so gutted he will be playing in the cherry and white of Wigan
