Wigan Warriors’ goal-kicking stance confirmed by head coach Matt Peet
The Wigan Warriors goal-kicking reins have been permanently handed to Adam Keighran, with Harry Smith stood down from the role, boss Matt Peet has confirmed.
Smith – who came under fire for his precision with the boot at times last year – had converted 29 of his 47 attempts across all competitions prior to last night’s Super League Round 8 clash with Castleford Tigers, missing six of 12 in last weekend’s Challenge Cup tie against the same opponents

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

When Keighron signed I think most of us assumed he would take over the kicking duties as it makes sense he’s as good as Snead from the tee,no slight on Harry Smith he’s enough to be doing without ball kicking duties so it’s a sensible move all round, one I feel that should have been made back in February

Completely agree, we’ve seen how good a kicker Harry can be but he’s a confidence kicker and he has enough to do on the pitch without having that added pressure.fozzie58 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 7:22 am When Keighron signed I think most of us assumed he would take over the kicking duties as it makes sense he’s as good as Snead from the tee,no slight on Harry Smith he’s enough to be doing without ball kicking duties so it’s a sensible move all round, one I feel that should have been made back in February
Surely no coincidence that was soon as the “pressure” was off and he took the tee when Keighrhan went off he nailed all 4
It’s a great problem and back up to have

The stats say keighran is the better kicker, this should have been sorted in pre season, fortunately it hasn't cost us.

Simple Harry at the front of the posts Keighran off the touch line, both happy and Harry 100% so confidence back

His kicking on Friday was outstanding. Touchline, "wrong" side.
I've criticised him in other area's but if he can carry on like that, he justifies his selection on that alone.

To be fair you don't have to be einstein to work out Keighran is a more established and better kicker than smith.Blackpool_Pie wrote: ↑Sun Apr 21, 2024 4:03 pm The amount of posters on here that know better than World Champion coach Matty Peet is astounding
