Perhaps he should be working on his tackle technique in the Reserves and not going straight back in to the First Team, as he did after his four match ban.josie andrews wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 6:00 pm Wigan Warriors boss confirms Liam Byrne appeal stance ahead of Challenge Cup semi-final clash
Wigan Warriors prop Liam Byrne received a two-match suspension following his sin-bin against Huddersfield Giants.
Head coach Matt Peet has confirmed that the club will not be appealing the ban, with the club to give the vacant spot to another member of the squad for the Challenge Cup semi-final clash against Hull KR.
Byrne, 24, only marked his return from a four-game ban against Catalans Dragons, having received a red card on Good Friday at the Totally Wicked Stadium.
He was shown a yellow for a high shot on Matty English in the first tackle of the game in West Yorkshire, with Wigan going on to claim a 48-6 victory at the John Smith’s Stadium.
“We won’t appeal the ban,” Peet admitted.
“We’ve got to be better there and continue to work with Liam on his technique. We’ll move on quickly, we’ve got a few different options, so we’ll weigh up what’s best for this particular game (against Hull KR).”

Good to see a two match ban for a Wigan player has created delight amongst some Wigan fans.
I'll not give any the label of supporters as I view the perpertrators as I view the team from over the hill.
Let's hope your trench days are over, there'd be unsafe backs to stab!!
Lower than contempt.

Perhaps you should trust the judgement of the person who trains with him all week and picks the team. Byrne will be missed on Saturday as he does tons of work in defense, both chasing the ball and 2nd / 3rd man in. His line speed is also one of the best which forces mistakes, but due to his height and that he's often first in he can go high.Ipinwigan wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 6:14 pmPerhaps he should be working on his tackle technique in the Reserves and not going straight back in to the First Team, as he did after his four match ban.josie andrews wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 6:00 pm Wigan Warriors boss confirms Liam Byrne appeal stance ahead of Challenge Cup semi-final clash

I'm hoping he brings in Hill, we need fit props when KR start to throw the ball about.
Re: Liam Byrne receives suspension ahead of Challenge Cup semi-final showdown
Liam's still young, obviously he gets picked for a reason and that's probably been in the past what he's picking up bans for now . At points last season before he got injured he looked like kicking on to that next level, early season Wire away and his performance in Catalan are examples of the level what he can rise to . The injury or form seems off upto now this season but I'm far from calling the lad for it.
He plays in the face rugby, on a couple of occasions he's been one of the few who kept Walmsley quiet. The hit he did at Catalans on Naverette which most of us love was probably not much different from the two suspension tackles he's done this season, it's just the boundary on legality has changed. He just needs to adapt and regain his confidence.

I think you are more likely to see Coops.Ipinwigan wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 4:26 pm Most of the bans are a complete joke, but it's the way things are going, prior to the game changing beyond all recognition.
Byrne and his tackling technique is a liability under the current rules.
The farcical thing this week is that Makinson only gets 1 game, served in a Reserves game.
On the up side we will be without Byrne for 2 games, give Harvie Hill a chance, or for the unknown get Walters in for the semi.

Liam will come good.NICKYKISS wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 5:33 pm For one reason and another Byrne hasn’t got going this year but people only need to look back to that spell around Catalans away last year to see what he can do. He may find himself on the sidelines for a bit longer than these 2 games now if things go well and that might not be a bad thing. His confidence looks a little low to me but he can play a big part in the season yet.
As for Saturday, Hill or Cooper to come in for me. I think I’d edge for Hill. He has been very good this season when he’s played and it would be a nice shot in the arm for his confidence to get picked in such a big game.

The plan should be to stop them throwing the ball about, I suggest we improve our line speed.First Try Tickle wrote: ↑Mon May 13, 2024 8:13 pmPerhaps you should trust the judgement of the person who trains with him all week and picks the team. Very unlucky to get two games imo.
Fortunately for the team, front row is the area where we are strongest and Byrne hasn't been a standout player in recent weeks.
He obviously needs to work on his technique. Hope he does.

Well, I'm not cheering about a two-match ban but I still think that if it had happened say, 15 minutes later, it might have been a red. It really didn't look good at all.
However, the disciplinary doesn't look great when Makinson (who I rather like as a player) but has form in this area, gets a one-match ban and a 'dangerous throw' which landed a player on his head, also gets a single-match ban.
Bit of consistency needed there and that might avoid the inevitable (and possibly justified) accusations of bias.

6 game ban so early in the season is very poor send him out on loan when his ban expires and see if he discovers himself
