Hull FC land Salford Red Devils hooker Amir Bourouh as recruitment drive continues

Post by josie andrews »

The Black and Whites have completed their fourth signing ahead of the 2025 season.

Hull FC have completed their latest signing for the 2025 season in the shape of Salford Red Devils hooker Amir Bourouh. Rugby League Live can reveal that the 23-year-old has agreed to join the club next season as part of the club's ongoing squad overhaul heading into the next campaign.

Bourouh is in the final months of his contract with the Reds and has now decided to join the Black and Whites, with director of rugby Richie Myler finalising another deal in what is proving to be a busy period. Bourouh is believed to be the club's fourth signing for 2025, joining John Asiata, Zak Hardaker and Oliver Holmes at the club next season.

Huddersfield-born Bourouh started his rugby league journey at renowned community club, Siddal. He played in the same side as Morgan Smithies, Tom Holroyd and Riley Dean. He was drafted into Wigan Warriors' academy setup at the age of 16 and would work his way through the ranks, eventually debuting for the first team at the age of 18.

The 2021 season saw him make a loan move to Halifax Panthers, whose head coach at the time was Hull FC's current interim coach, Simon Grix. Bourouh caught the eye in the Championship and would eventually return to Wigan, where he made further Super League appearances.

Salford then came calling, and he has spent the last three years at the club, working under a former England number nine in the shape of head coach Paul Rowley, who decided against becoming the new Black and Whites head coach last month. He has now made 28 appearances for Salford, with the current season seeing him step up for the Reds following the departure of Andy Ackers to Leeds. Bourouh was given the number nine jersey ahead of the new season.

Next year will see him wear new colours and he is set to play a prominent role. With Danny Houghton set to retire and Denive Balmforth off-contract at the end of the season, the squad is currently lacking depth in the position but Bourouh will certainly add to that, while there is scope for another to be recruited before the 2025 season. At the age of 23, the Black and Whites are also recruiting a player with plenty of development in him.

As for Salford, they have used a number of players at hooker this season, with utility man Chris Atkin, Cade Cust and Joe Mellor all featuring there throughout the season. However, it appears likely that a specialist number nine will be part of their shopping list ahead of the new season.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
