Can't recall a better forward performance than Thompson today. A delight to see him bulldozing through HKR, He was my MOM but can't quibble with Harry.

For years we’ve looked on at props at other clubs feeling a bit jealous but those days have ended now. In Thompson we have a machine of a prop, the like of which we’ve not had for a long while. You add in Havard who can reach that level as well once back up to full speed and then all the other top quality options and we’ve well and truly fixed that area of the field.

The best part about this performance for me is how I'm sure we were at most in 3rd gear. It felt comfortable all game and we never really set the world alight. We didn't see French and Field really run at them. We ground them down, we actually seemed to gift them field position at times. We still struggle coming out from our own end but Smiths kicking keeps us in the arm wrestle and we were just very clinical. Lots of positives from the game but also some work ons which is always good really when we manage such a comprehensive win in a game with so much resting on it. A truly frightening lineup when you consider we have players like Byrne, Isa, Cooper, Hill etc not even in the 17. I think we may rotate the forwards over the next couple of games, get walters playing a bit, bring in Cooper, Hill and Byrne and let them stake their claim for the final

Hill deserves a chance for sure. If Wire win tomorrow, that game 2 weeks today will interesting. They’ll both not want to give a lot away.

I got back from the game and straightaway turned on the TV cos I had the match recorded, and watched it back. Apart from whiny JD, it was great. I'll echo the praise for Thompson, he was great. Just a really good team performance.

I thought the whole of the commenting lot, perhaps Kev Brown wasn’t as bad but for the others pulling Wigan up when they were errors made by both sides & the ref! You play to the whistle!

Adam Keighran pushed Opaicic (sp) head into the pitch first which caused the punch up. Nothing about the high tackle on Ellis. Walter’s makes a grab from behind = high tackle against him.

You can go on & on It’s not ref giving calls for Wigan or HKR it’s just swings & roundabouts throughout a game.

But they really need to get rid of the whining Jonathan Davies! OMG he is bloody awful!

Especially with the forward pass they made so much fuss about; if you're offside inside the 10 m, that's it, it doesn't matter what happens afterwards, it's a penalty.

Everything went Wigan’s way against ‘dominant’ Hull KR,?says former England winger


Hull KR were beaten by Wigan Warriors

It was tough day at the office for Hull KR as they were put to bed by Wigan Warriors in the semi-finals of the Challenge Cup in Doncaster.

The Robins, who were hoping to produce a repeat of their 11-10 triumph over the Warriors in last year’s competition, were humbled this time around losing 38-6.

It was a superb display from Matt Peet’s Wigan who never looked in trouble in the game, scoring seven tries on their way to securing a place at Wembley Stadium and revenge for defeat at this stage last season

There was no denying the gulf between the teams at full-time, with the Warriors showing why they are reigning Super League and World Club Champions as they look to hold of the game early and never let go.

Pinkney claims everything went Wigan’s way

Despite Wigan showing they were a class above, former England and Hull KR winger Nick Pinkney believed the game was not a reflection of the ability of both teams.

Speaking to BBC Radio Humberside after the game, Pinkney, who was part of the Sheffield Eagles team that famously beat Wigan in 1998, believes his hometown club were unfortunate that ‘everything came off’ for the Warriors.

You can get to the end of a game and it can look like one team has been completely dominant, said Pinkney.

“You can bring it back to such small margins in a game though, that can make it look like one team was way better than the other.

“You can count a lot of those from this game and I think that is why Willie Peters wasn’t too fussed about it (the result).

“Key decisions and elements in a game can make such a massive difference to the outcome, the way the outcome looks and the scoreline of a game looks.

“I still believe there is nowhere near that amount of points between these two teams. It’s just one of those outcomes today where Rovers weren’t as clinical as what they have been and weren’t defensively strong.

“Wigan were the opposite. But everything Wigan did came off, there were always players there and it seem to always bounce perfectly into their arms. It’s just things like that that make a game blow out.

“That’s how it was today so I’m not going to get overly down about it. It’s a result that is disappointing but I think Rovers will bounce back from that.”

Hull KR below par in crushing defeat

Pinkney did later go on to admit that the result was also down to Hull KR been way below their best, believing they will respond from the setback during the remainder of the Super League season.


“There is a lot in that game Rovers will look at and they will know they can bounce back from. It’s just one game,” Pinkney added.

“There was a feeling that no matter what Hull KR did today it just wasn’t going to be, but, as I say, everything Wigan did just seem to come off.

“I actually thought Rovers had large periods of dominance in that game, especially in terms of field position, but there just wasn’t anything coming from them.

That was because Wigan’s defence was outstanding, but also Hull KR’s attack was clunky and wasn’t where it usually has been.”
