MATT PEET SPOKE TO THE PRESS ON WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON AHEAD SUNDAY’S BETFRED SUPER LEAGUE R12 CLASH AGAINST SALFORD RED DEVILS.

The Warriors head into the game as Betfred Challenge Cup finalists after defeating Hull KR 38-6 at Doncaster’s Eco-Power Stadium last time out. Speaking on the victory, Peet said: “It was a job well done. I’m really proud of the performance from the team, it was a good day for us which I enjoyed but we’ll move on quick.

“It’s important that you enjoy it, celebrate it, and talk about what went well, but it’s also important that you realise it’s another step in the right direction. The challenge now is to put that in the back of our minds whilst we focus on Salford although it’s great to have that excitement in the background.”

Wigan return to Betfred Super League action for the first time since defeating Huddersfield Giants at the start of the month. Liam Marshall scored three of the Warriors’ eight tries in the win to surpass 500 Super League points.

On Marshall’s milestone, Peet said: “We talk a lot about him as a person and culturally what he does for us, but he’s just an outstanding finisher. Whether that’s going the length of the field, diving on kicks, finishing support play, he’s got great winger’s instincts.”

The Warriors prepare to face the Red Devils at the Salford Stadium for the second time this season after Wigan scored two late tries to record a 22-12 victory in Round 5.

Wigan face a Salford side have won four of their last six Super League outings, and on Sunday’s clash, Peet said: “I know we’ll be tested. They’re as expansive of a team as you’ll see in Super League, they move the ball really well along with great ball carriers. It’s easy to see where their threats come because they’re an outstanding attacking team – we’re going to have to be at our best defensively to contain them.”

The Warriors will be without Kaide Ellis and Sam Walters this weekend as the duo serve one-match suspensions. On the absence of the forwards, Peet said: “They’re not ideal but we’re well-equipped. We have players who are ready and eager to come in.”
