Wigan Warriors duo banned for Challenge Cup Final after landing charges
Re: Wigan Warriors duo banned for Challenge Cup Final after landing charges
Why is it that we are waiting for the disciplinary results every monday something has gone wrong with our discipline any thoughts
Re: Wigan Warriors duo banned for Challenge Cup Final after landing charges
We definitely have a discapline issue, but I don't think its in the bans - those are a risk for every team every time they step out these days. I think the issue is with silly offside, lying on and - even worse - backchat penalties. The two we gave away for dissent are just not acceptable, regardless of the refs decision. Those extra yards could make all the difference in a tight game, and for me it shows the players are blaming the ref for their current position, rather than resolving to work their way out of it. If we need to put pressure on the ref, which we should, get the captain over and ask relatively polite questions about his reasoning, asking what we should have done to avoid the pen etc.

There was interference.Mike wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 5:39 pm My biggest concern is the kicking. It could be a close match and we'll be at a disadvantage it Harry loses confidence after a couple of misses. IMO Keiran's was a red, and would have been in previous seasons. I reckon it does warrant the grade D charge in this current regime. Its the shoulder charge nature of the challenge that does it for me. Combined with the outcome - which was very forceful contact with the head, the mitigation of rapid loss of height loses some weight.
Dupre will also be a loss, but its more marginal IMO. His offence definitely warrants a ban unless it was accidental, or caused by interference. I haven't watched it back so I dont know if there is anything there, but if there's evidence for that, we should appeal. I'd say that watching it live I thought it was delibrate and was amazed the ref missed it.
I'd also say the shoulder charge tackle from Wire earlier in the game should have been reviewed. Seemed to be pretty serious to me.
The other high shots, IMO were grabbing arms rather than swinging arms, and are marginal whether they should be reviewed. Certainly in the first 4 weeks of the season they would all have been yellow cards and 1 match bans, but that is not where we are now. On field interpretations seem to be back to something like normal, but bans are still slightly longer and giving out more often.

Agreed, one of the best features of the Peet era has been, for me and the most part how little they've backchatted the ref,i mean hes the man with the whistle and when has a ref ever changed his mind over a decision hes given when hes faced with a red faced player?I suspect never so it needs to be stamped on by Peet and co its tiresome at best.Mike wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 8:21 pm We definitely have a discapline issue, but I don't think its in the bans - those are a risk for every team every time they step out these days. The other issues you mention need addressing, get up and get on with the game Jesus wept its not hard the petulance needs to stop and get on with the game the way they have done in the last couple of years at times the petulance has reminded me of the latter days or Wane and Adrian lam enough enough.

Surely, there must be something that can be done. The panel is obviously not fit for purpose and as they can issue fines they are causing financial implications with apperently not oversight to reign them in.
I expected to see bans for our players bit how you can cite them and ignore the Warrington incidents stinks of corruption.

These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

If the interference caused the head butt - i.e. by unbalancing Dupre so he fell forwards to regain his balance and accidentally contacted Powell, or an attempt to get free resulted in an accidental clash of heads - then we should appeal. If the interference triggered a retaliatory or petulant head butt then we should not. You can't justify head butting every player that tries to slow the play the ball down and crosses the line. Maybe it should be a penalty, but you can't decide to head butt someone because you didn't get it. I don't know which it was BTW, but there's a clear distinction here between these scenarios IMO.Charriots Offiah wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 9:33 pmThere was interference.Mike wrote: ↑Mon Jun 03, 2024 5:39 pm My biggest concern is the kicking. I have no problem with the ban on our players and hope they learn by their mistakes . What concerns me is inconsistencies that are happening every week . The Saints v Catalan game on Friday had more high shots and shoulder charges (a couple of them quite nasty by Catalan not picked up by the ref but highlighted by Sky) than most games but no citations if I am correct. They only like to hammer the successuful teams with stupid bans, Stains suffer the with the same issues, but their players deserve to be bannedEDINBURGH-WARRIOR wrote: ↑Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:39 am I have no problem with the ban on our players and hope they learn by their mistakes .
