Wigan Warriors make Adam Keighran and Tyler Dupree appeal decisions ahead of Challenge Cup Final

The pair were charged by the Match Review Panel on Monday, leaving their places at Wembley in doubt.

Adam Keighran and Tyler Dupree will miss the Challenge Cup Final after Wigan Warriors decided against an appeal of the charges imposed by the Match Review Panel. The two players were handed Grade D charges by the Match Review Panel, which came with three-match suspensions.

The Warriors had the right to appeal and take the cases to a tribunal today. However, Rugby League Live understands the club has decided against that option, meaning the two players will miss Saturday's Wembley showdown with Warrington Wolves.

Keighran was red-carded in Wigan's Super League victory over the Wire on Saturday and was charged with head contact. Head coach Matt Peet revealed that he had apologised to Keighran for his post-match comments after reviewing the tackle in further detail.

Meanwhile, Dupree has been banned for a headbutt, which was not penalised during the game but retrospectively cited. As well as missing Saturday's final, they will also be unavailable for Super League games against Castleford Tigers and London Broncos.

It is a blow for Wigan, who will now be without two players who, collectively, have only missed three games all season. Both played in the World Club Challenge victory over Penrith Panthers and the Challenge Cup victory over Hull KR.

It also ensures Dupree won't be able to complete a unique accomplishment. The England prop has won three trophies in 24 appearances since a mid-season move last year, and he would have been able to secure a full set in 25 games had Wigan been victorious on Saturday.

Think it’s about time the club stood up to the RFL& the Disciplinary!

Why not stand up for these two players

Grow some fecking balls & stop rolling over every time we get a decision against us!

Pussies!

No my cats have more balls & they’ve all been neutered 🤬

Disgusting outcome and a disgraceful decision not to appeal. Bad decision to put 2 goal kickers in a match why would you need both.So sorry for the rest of the team you don't have the courage or confidence to put forward an appeal just can't justify that decision 😔

EDINBURGH-WARRIOR wrote: Tue Jun 04, 2024 8:39 am I have no problem with the ban on our players and hope they learn by their mistakes . What concerns me is inconsistencies that are happening every week . The Saints v Catalan game on Friday had more high shots and shoulder charges (a couple of them quite nasty by Catalan not picked up by the ref but highlighted by Sky) than most games but no citations if I am correct. Crazy

They only like to hammer the successuful teams with stupid bans, Stains suffer the with the same issues, but their players deserve to be banned
Not sure that’s true to be honest Wigan seem, from the outside at least to be having trouble adapting to the new rules it may be something as simple as that I just don’t know.

As for the bans gut feeling is this if they appeal they’d get longer so no appeal just my take on it

And do what, exactly? Clubs can't just ignore disciplinary rulings. Yes, they can appeal, but no guarantee it'd be successful, and sometimes appeals do more harm than good.

It's not a case of 'having balls'. We are not in the schoolyard. At least, I hope not.

That's why Byrne shouldn't be picked for Wembley, or any other game, until he resolves his issues in the reserves.

If we aren't going to appeal with a cup final on the line then we'll never appeal.
