'Unfinished business' Jordan Abdull impact laid out as Hull FC secure top half-back target

Post by josie andrews »

Abdull will be re-join Hull FC next season on a multi-year deal.

Jordan Abdull has singled out Hull FC's 'ambition' to be a leading Super League force again as a driving factor behind his decision to return to the club. The 28-year-old has signed a three-year deal with the Black and Whites in a move that will see him ply his trade at the MKM Stadium until at least the end of the 2027 season.

As first reported by Hull Live, Abdull, who is currently on a season-long loan at Catalans Dragons, was given permission from Hull KR to speak to Hull FC after making his intentions known to return to the UK next year. The half-back was under-contract at the Robins until 2026, but the East Hull club have allowed the player to return to his boyhood club from 2025 after first leaving them six years ago. No transfer fee is involved.

Hull, meanwhile, are delighted to secure what they believe is a 'significant' piece of recruitment for the club, with Abdull set to slot into the halves alongside Jake Trueman next season. The Hull-born kicking supremo has been identified as the leading number seven the club desired and is also tasked with helping to develop the young, up-and-coming talents, none more so than rising star Jack Charles.

Having first debuted for Hull in 2014, Abdull spent a season on loan at Hull KR in 2017 before signing for London Broncos in 2019. He then made the move to Hull KR in 2020, making his England international debut against France in 2021.

A Skirlaugh Bulls junior, Abdull has 54 Hull appearances to his name over four seasons and over 180 in his career to date, having come through the club's academy ranks in the early 2010s. He is a renowned kicker of the ball, both from his hands and the tee, and is backed to give Hull the direction and quality they crave for the next three years alongside fellow new signings John Asiata, Amir Bourouh, Zak Hardaker, and Oliver Holmes.

Speaking on his move, Abdull said: "As soon as the opportunity to join Hull FC came about, I saw it as a chance to potentially bring the curtain down on my career at the club where my professional rugby league journey started.

"The club are recruiting the right sort of players, the right sort of off-field staff, and the right sort of coaches. That screams out to me that there is an ambition to get back into a strong position, and I have a huge determination to be a part of that process. It’s going to be nice to be back in Hull, and I’m looking forward to being closer to my family again."

Laying out the impact of Abdull's signing, Hull FC Director of Rugby, Richie Myler, believes the player has 'unfinished business with the club. He added: "We’re delighted to bring Jordan back to West Hull in 2025; securing one of the competition’s most exciting and dangerous English play-makers is significant for us as a club.

"Since our first conversation regarding the move, Jordan’s desire to return to the MKM Stadium has been clear to see. He has unfinished business here, and we believe the pairing of himself and Jake Trueman next season is something our supporters can really get excited about.

“During the years since he departed the club, his talents and capabilities on the field have been clear to see throughout his time at London, Hull KR, and this season at Catalans. He brings calmness and great communication to the role, and he’s returning with some great experience gained

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

I think he has a superb kicking game and is a very good half back - problem in application. He is a bit of a throw back to a lee briers style player but in the modern game which is more about physicality he doesnt look like he conditions himself well
