Jai Field

I seem to remember Field starting slow last year but i may be completely making that up. I think he comes on strong during the season

Love him! Great player! But a shadow of his former self. When are we going to see him go around a player and pin his ears back with the pace he has to burn? Is he carrying a knock? Is he nervous, following his hamstring issues? The pitches are now more firm and we are a third through the season, but still no Field flashes of brilliance in attack. He's in this Wigan team partly due to his speed and try scoring ability, but we're not seeing it just yet, why?? I know I'll get slated here by the Cherry and white spectacle wearers, but he's not producing the goods imo. I'd be interested in your opinions.

Think he is producing the goods. He may not be making 90 meter breaks every 5 minutes but the rest of his play, as a fullback, is spot on and when he does make those breaks, well that is the icing on the cake.

I'd say at the moment, he's the best fullback in SL and by some distance.

I'd disagree {and worryingly} Dufty at Wire is knocking strips off him at the moment as an attacking, yard makikig full back.

I think there's a couple of aspects to this:

1) As mentioned he's had a few injuries he's managing

2) We used to rely on Jai and Bevan exclusively to get us out of trouble when we never looked like scoring. He was backing up every single break and trying to engineer gaps himself.

We are now a much more rounded team with Jai playing a different role as a link player making try assists and very unselfishly making decoy running lines for others. He's less likely to be found supporting every possible break. I think he's contributing far more to the team making us a more difficult team to defend against at the personal loss of tries scored and individual plaudits.

I think the only time we've seen him test his speed fully was the 2nd half of the Hull KR game where we were behind and he got on the outside shoulder a number of times and created a number of chances.

I think as the season progresses we'll see him making a few more attacking runs.

Agree with a lot of what has been posted.

Other teams are watching him and in doing so he's creating space for others.

Always looks as though he is operating at 80% imo. He's so quick that this is more than enough for 99.9% of situations. Defensively he is sound.

I'm happy with his contribution tbh.

Don't get all this about Jai.

We don't know if he's at full pace as we've not have any fast paced grounds yet.
Opposition teams have done their homework on Jai and his place in and around Wigan's plays.
Whilst he isn't making breaks as he used to the gaps others are going through whilst players are distracted by both Jai and Bevan is immense.

Jai is a massive part of the team/squad and is a one of the reasons we are doing so very well!

I'd say he's one of the most unselfish players in the team. Has really embraced making space for others and putting others in for tries rather than trying to grab as many for himself.

He also looks like a pretty good organiser at the back. Saying that - I'm looking forward to him using his pace at Wembley !

I do think he's pacing himself through the season which I think is a pretty smart thing for both Peet and Jai to do.

Gonna watch again later. But not too sure exactly what he contributed today. Was looking forward to seeing his "explosive" pace on the Wembley turf. But I think I missed that moment. I find it hard critizing a player after such an excellent team performance and particularly after lifting a trophy, but what exactly did he do today? I'm sure I'll get slated on here, but I started this thread a few weeks ago following his less than inspiring performances and everybody on here assured me they were happy with his performance, and that he was nursing all kinds of injuries, but that he'd rip it up on the open space of Wembley when it mattered. Sorry but I think Imissed it

Well im just on the coach coming home laughing at this as he was my
Mom( followed closely by marshy,oneill and miski). Hes the best fb in super league by a mile and proved that today in
My eyes.Remember its not all about running in for tries.His pass to faz was perfection.Obviously ur entitled to ur opinion but i disagree massively and im no happy clapper
