Hull KR supporters annoyed as 'best away day' moved for television coverage

Rovers fans planning a Saturday away day have had their hopes scuppered.

Hull KR's trip to Warrington Wolves in August has been rearranged. Sky Sports have selected the clash between the two League Leaders' Shield contenders as one of their marquee picks for round 20, which has seen the date pushed forward by a day.

It means the game will now take place on Friday, August 2nd, (8 PM kick-off). Initially Rovers were set to travel to the Halliwell Jones Stadium on Saturday, which would have given supporters a rare weekend away day.

However, supporters will now have to travel the length of the M62 on a Friday evening should they wish to watch the game live. It's a fact that has frustrated Rovers fans after discovering the news.

Warrington is one of the longest away trips of the year for Rovers. It is a 230-mile round trip from Craven Park to the Halliwell Jones Stadium and is roughly a two hour trip, which comes with obvious challenges for supporters who work in the week

That was meant to be the best away day of the year aswell," Kai Dunn posted on X. The Robins Pod added: "Who doesn’t love another trip down the M62 on a Friday night?"

The complaints continued. Kieran Curl said: "From a Saturday afternoon to a Friday night. Yeah cheers Sky." On Facebook, Ian Broadbent added: "Can we have more weekend fixtures to enjoy with the kids."


As part of Sky's deal with Super League, the broadcaster has the right to pick two matches per week that act as their main games for the round. Traditionally, these are the games that feature enhanced coverage, such as pre-match build-up and extended analysis.
