Hull KR sign Micky McIlorum in one of Super League's all-time unexpected deals

Post by josie andrews »

The Robins have completed their fifth signing for 2025, but this one is certainly the most surprising.

Hull KR have stunned Super League by announcing the signing of England international Michael McIlorum. The Robins have secured the hooker on a one-year contract in a deal that will see McIlorum become the club's fifth signing ahead of 2025.

In one of the most surprising deals in recent memory, McIlorum will swap the south of France for east Hull, having spent the last seven seasons playing for the Dragons. Previously of Wigan Warriors, McIlorum has won both the Grand Final and Challenge Cup on three occasions, and will hope to add to his collection at Craven Park.

The 36-year-old brings a wealth of experience, with 370 Super League appearances and two World Cup campaigns under his belt. He will provide competition for a starting spot for Jez Litten, as well as fellow new hooker, Bill Leyland.

Rovers had indicated that their recruitment dealings were at an end following the arrival of Leyland, who will be joined at the club next season by Jared Waerea-Hargreaves, Tom Davies and Eribe Doro. Leyland's arrival had also secured a replacement for Matt Parcell, who will leave the club at the end of the season. However, they have moved quickly to sign McIlorum after his availability came to light.

"I’m very happy to be signing with Hull KR next season," McIlorum said. "The club has been going from strength to strength over the past few years and I want to be a part of that.

After speaking with Willie on his ethos and the club’s ambitions I saw this as a great fit for me. Hull KR are a club striving for silverware and I’m looking forward to helping them push for success in 2025."

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

We need more SL clubs to have HKR's attitude.
