Tristan Sailor has confirmed he has signed a two-year deal with St Helens ahead of the 2025 Super League campaign. Sailor has found himself rooted down the pecking order this season at Brisbane Broncos and while he still has a year left to run on his deal at Suncorp Stadium, he has been strongly linked with a move to Super League.
Hull FC were said to be very keen, but Saints were reported to have won the race and Sailor has now confirmed that he will be joining the club as he looks to take the next step in his career. The 26-year-old will join up with the club for pre-season and while he’s looking forward to playing alongside the likes of Jack Welsby, he admits he is keeping his options open regarding his long-term future.
“If I go over there and enjoy it I might want to stay. I have signed for two years at Saints and can really improve my game and be consistent in a high level comp,” Sailor told the Australian Associated Press.
“I want to learn as much as I can and play top flight footy.”
He added: “Jack Welsby is an international and someone who plays similar positions to me that I can work alongside. Jack and I both play fullback and five-eighth so pre-season it is going to be a matter of what the coaches want. One of us will play in either spot. When I get there it is something we will figure out.”
It seems Saints fans have James Graham to thank for their new signing, with their former prop having a big influence on Sailor as a young player. The pair were together at St George Illawarra Dragons and Sailor has revealed Graham planted the seed all those years ago.
“Obviously I was at the Dragons with James Graham and he told me all about the club,” Tristan Sailor said. “He is a club legend there and he told me about the history of it and how passionate the fans are, similar to the Broncos.
That English blood runs a bit more red so it will be interesting seeing what the crowds are like. I have good mates over there and Adam Clune who is playing for Huddersfield has told me what the lifestyle is like.
“To be able to play in an elite competition at a good team, like St Helens, and see that part of the world is something I wanted to look into. I am grateful for the Broncos giving me that opportunity and releasing me with a year left on my contract.”

Tristan Sailor confirms Super League move with ‘two-year deal signed’
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

This season, better than May, I'd say. His defence has really come on.
