Rhyse Martin

Post by boggart »

Didn't much like the way Rhyse Martin feigned a head knock and got Keighran binned. The ref said it was the 3rd time Adam had put a high shot in and it was for cumulative transgressions, but Martin started to get up and play on and then changed his mind and milked a penalty. Shouldn't Cullen's chums on the Disiplinary look at that sort of thing as well. The game can do without it anyway.

All us Wigan fans were screaming at Martin & the referee Moore for falling for that blatant play acting 🤨

I think it’s despicable of a player to deliberately get another player sent off!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

That's fair enough, but Kaide Ellis has done it twice now that I can think of this season.

This sort of thing is always going to happen with the Video Refs at games.
There needs to be a restriction on the use of the Video Ref for this type of incident and only use them for try decisions, it's the only way we will cut out the play acting element of the game.

I agree

It’s uncomfortable truth I hate it when I see this crap creeping into the game be a Wigan player or opponents it needs stopping,to me the video ref has just made things worse

I fully agree. Let the referee make the decisions on the field, the MRP can view the footage of the game including any player feigning injury which should also include a ban. The RFL could also consider using the green card for any player that stays down.

The thing is as a fan there on Saturday you just knew what was coming. The South stand had been their usual whining selves, and as soon as he stayed down they were off on one (without knowing what had gone on), so it was inevitable that he was getting 10 or a red

i like the idea of a card, it works well for HIA at the minute where there is a genuine need to assess a player. its what we would do with the "injured player". Do they need to stay off for a period of time (no substitute) as that would soon stop the play acting, but equally we need to be mindful of players with genuine injuries

I think it's difficult. If we really restrict the VR to try-scoring situations, they we lose the chance to redress proper nasty cheap shots that the officials may have missed (often, not on the ball-carrier). So I don't think we should throw the baby out with the bath-water. And furthermore, it would add to another bug-bear of mine: try-scoring situations are already reffed differently to play in other parts of the field (the obstruction law), and this would only add to this unwelcome trend.

I agree, however if referees actually spotted these things you wouldn't see players staying down. Players staying down is a symptom of bad refereeing
