Whitehaven head coach Kyle Amor said that money generated by Wakefield Trinity should enable the troubled Championship club to finish the season.

Wakefield raised £12,000 through ticket sales and bucket collections at Sunday's fixture between the sides at the DIY Kitchens Stadium to donate to their opponents.

The Championship leaders coasted to a 60-6 victory, but Amor was keen to thank the West Yorkshire club for what they did off the pitch.

"I want to applaud Wakefield for what they've done," he said.

"It probably allows us to finish the season now with what we've got, which is 15 players."

Whitehaven are 13th in the Championship in the remaining relegation spot, with three games left.

But it is events off the pitch that have dominated in recent weeks with the chief executive resigning, board members stepping down, and players threatening to strike over unpaid wages.

Previous head coach Jonty Gorley stood down with former St Helens forward Amor brought in to help his hometown club.

There was concern over the club being able to fulfil their last few games - they had a squad of only 14 players for the win over Dewsbury Rams last month.

However, Wakefield owner Matt Ellis announced four days before Sunday's match that all the money from specially priced £10 tickets would go to Whitehaven, while there were collections from Trinity supporters in the crowd of 5,096.

"What Matt Ellis has done for us as a club in our hour of need, he didn't really have to do that," said Amor, external.

"He's been able to generate some ticket money and some donation money that is probably going to help us through to the end of the year."

The trouble is the RFL are broke and useless.

As do a lot of SL clubs.

I believe Halifax Panthers are in a similar position financially.

But hey,never mind these clubs that were at the start of RL in this country & let’s go spend loads of money to try & expand the game to places & country’s who aren’t really interested in RL
