Northern teams-up with Hull Kingston Rovers to get fans to Grand Final on Saturday for just £10
Northern has teamed-up with Hull Kingston Rovers to offer fans travelling to watch the Super League Grand Final on Saturday (12 October) a special ticket to get them to the match.
The train operator will charge just £10 for a special day ranger ticket valid on all Northern services between Hull and Manchester Victoria via Halifax or Leeds.
The ticket, which is valid for adults and children, represents a big reduction on the standard ticket price and is part of efforts to encourage more fans to travel to the game on public transport.
Yesterday, Northern revealed it had given 300 young rugby fans tickets to watch Hull Kingston Rovers take on Wigan Warriors in the final at Old Trafford as part of its partnership with Super League.
Mark Powles, commercial and customer director at Northern, said: “As proud partners of Super League, yesterday we were delighted to announce that we were giving 300 young fans the chance to watch the final at Old Trafford.
“Today, we’re happy to announce we’re working with Hull Kingston Rovers to encourage fans with a ticket for the match to ditch their cars and travel by train instead.”
A link to purchase the special £10 ticket will be sent to all Hull Kingston Rovers fans with a ticket for Saturday's Super League Grand Final. For full terms and conditions, click here.
Northern is the second largest train operator in the UK, with 2,500 services a day to more than 500 stations across the North of England.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

So the other week when they played us at the Brick they were only charged £1 to travel on the coach to attend the game!
You’re not telling me they are so poor in Hull? They will be giving free match tickets next!

Good to see. The more we get there the better.
Glad they are going through Victoria, means my journey back from Piccadilly should be a bit less busy, and I'm paying nothing as my lad works for EMR

Surely the more fans the better for the game?

It's great to see Northern making a special effort for the HKR fans but will the trains actually run? Northern services in general (and also between Southport and Wigan on match days) have been appalling this year. It's O.K. for them to look like they care but they're bloody useless most of the year. They seem to have just given up on Sundays when their drivers are often not available unless they do overtime.

10 quid ticket's no good when you get stuck in Leeds or somewhere when they cancel all the rest of the trains!

Re: Northern teams-up with Hull Kingston Rovers to get fans to Grand Final on Saturday for just £10
yet another misleading headline, as the same ticket offer applies to Wigan fans (although we could probably get it cheaper
)
the big elephant in the room is that there are bugger all trains from Wigan to Manchester due to ongoing works, and the rest are likely to be cancelled for no reason. Plus every Saturday they seem to shut Deansgate at 6pm to compound issues
i'm still undecided on driving or going from another station / line, as transpennine are far more reliable that Northern

I am planning on driving to a Tram station outside of Manchester over Bury way as I live north of Bury, park up on their car park for free and catch the tram into Manchester. Done this for the last couple of GF's and it has worked out really well, tram is busy going back but you can easily get on after the game.

I'm driving from Wales on Saturday morning, stopping in a hotel in Eccles. Tram from Eccles to Pomona Strand, Stretford, then 15 minute walk to the ground. Just can't trust trains anymore.
