The 1994 team was better.

The 2024 team is constrained by a salary cap.

Agreed. Still the worst thing to happen to the sport in this country. When are we going to scrap / double it?

I remember michael oconner and paul vauten playing for saints in a final
You can't say that they played, although they did turn up :D

If I remember rightly in that game, O'Connor in particular didn't get a sniff.

Not even a debate for me. 94 hammers the 24. The talent in that 94 team was unbelievable

Hmm, the 94 wins felt more of an achievement at the time.

WCC win was unique as it came at the end of our season (so we had a few out injured) , played away and at the perfect time for the Broncos (mid season for them) and we had a new coach.

Championship - top on points difference over Bradford& Warrington (I'd forgotten about that).
CC final - tough encounter v Leeds
Premiership Final - tough win over Castleford

We actually got tanked in the Regal Trophy final v Castleford!!

Oh dear, got that all wrong, should have been:

Regal Trophy - big win over Warrington
Championship - top over Leeds
CC final - big win v Leeds
Premiership Final - very big win over Leeds

You can’t compare eras and for me it’s silly to try I’d say this it was easy buying a full time team in a part time sport and bulldoze teams but for me the way Wigan have brought so many kids through and bought very wisely from the top table of talent means for me is a much bigger achievement

Nkt this they bought the trophies again. That is a myth peddled by other teams fans. Leeds were full time by then and most other teams at the top such as Saints had players whose only job was playing RL. There were very few semi pro players in the top sides.

In any case it is arguable that the opposition was closer to winning then than now. I can’t remember if it was 94 but one season Warrington beat Wigan home and away and those were the only two games Wigan lost. Des Drummond was playing for 5em at the time. Warrington were a far better side then than in recent seasons.

Then there was Widnes before that who enticed top RU internationals from Wales such as Devereux and Davis as well as having home grown talent like Myler and others.

The idea the sport was part time by 94 is nuts.
