Young sports personality of the year has to be 17 or under at the start of the year.

However, I don't see any reason why we wouldn't be one of the contenders for team of the year and coach of the year. Winning it will be difficult given the attitude to RL in this country but I'm not sure of any better contenders? French should be in the mix for 'world sports star' given he's been man of the match in all 3 finals this year which is unprecedented, but I doubt he will be. It will be hard enough to break through the Beebs ignorance of RL but given they've been broadcasting SL games this year there must be a chance.

Keely Hodgkinson should be nailed on for SPOTY too because Wigan borough is bloody brilliant.

In an ideal world there is no reason why we couldn’t win any of these but this is run by the BBC and presented by Gary Linekar, so we’ll more than likely get overlooked and the award will go to Oscar Pistorius for services to rifle sports.

Well if Wigan don't win team of the year this time there is something wrong.

Hardly any competition either.

Hopefully Wigan RL will get the recognition they deserve.
Obviously I'm saying that more in hope than expectation.

No

as a very outside chance Wigan may win team of the year but i'm sure they can find some reason to award it to the England football team for failing again and Southgate for coach of the year for failing again etc etc

sad as it is, RL in this country is a 2nd rate sport, and the BBC reluctantly show it because other sports have all run off and taken the money with Sky / BT / nextflix etc. So look for horse racing, athletics, football, cricket, RU, boxing, olympics all to get far more air time than anything to do with RL

The biggest obstacle to us winning team of the year again is the limited coverage that RL now gets from the BBC. It's not the only factor but I'm sure they prefer a team that they show (or used to) on their channels frequently to one they don't. Other than another Man City vote I think this is as good a year as we'll get to win it. The Olympics didn't throw up an obvious team (Show jumping?) and many of the Olympic 'teams' proposed in the past are contrived e,g, rowing, cycling or diving. Oddities like the Americas Cup sometimes grab the headlines but that's not going our way so far The England mens/womens football and union teams didn't actually win anything meaningful. The Ashes isn't until next season and I honestly don't know or care about the Ryder Cup (last year/next year?). Perhaps if Lando Norris pulls off a miracle, McLaren could be team of the year. I'm sure there are plenty of you out there who remember other possible rivals and I'd be interested to see your potential challengers. Yes, I've convinced myself that this is our year (not Warrington's). The RL Grand Slam is our big chance to remind the British public that Wigan Warriors are the team of the year for 2024.
