Will Pryce set for ‘Boom or Bust’ year with Super League returning looming

Post by josie andrews »

Former Huddersfield Giants man Will Pryce is set for a ‘Boom or Bust’ year with the 21-year-old facing a possible return to Super League.

After the November 1st deadline ticked over, Pryce is now in the second year of his two-year deal with Newcastle Knights meaning that rival clubs can begin to negotiate with him about the 2026 season.

That’s a 2026 season that could see him return to Super League per one report Down Under with Fox Sports assessing the ‘Boom or Bust’ signings made in the 2024 campaign

The former Super League star features in the ‘Bust’ segment after making just five NRL appearances in his debut season despite the Knights not having a lockdown starter in the position.

It could be argued that the chop-and-change nature didn’t allow Pryce to settle but for head coach Adam O’Brien, it was the 21-year-old’s defensive abilities that saw him unable to nail down a role.

As such, he was designated to the New South Wales Cup for the majority of the season, even earning Team of the Year honours but with the Knights reportedly paying Pryce $400,000 in 2025, they will want more than a great reserve-grade player.

Former Super League man facing make-or-break year

Pryce moved from Super League to Newcastle Knights alongside Kai Pearce-Paul with the ex-Wigan man making a major impact as he featured 22 times for the club, compared to Pryce who played on just five occasions.

Instead, he tore it up in the NSW Cup but given his reported monster wage for 2025, he will likely need to make a major impact for the Knights to see value in the deal.

Given that he is off contract for 2026, it’s a major year for the ex-Huddersfield Giants man if he is to realise a long-term NRL dream.

Per the Fox Sports report, similar performances in 2025 at NRL level could see him ‘heading back to England’.

Other signings familiar to Super League fans that are featured on the list include Aiden Sezer who struggled at Wests but has since moved to Hull FC.

Leeds Rhinos’ new recruit Keenan Palasia is another on the list with his move from Brisbane Broncos to Gold Coast failing to work out after the prop made 15 appearances including just three starts.

There were positive reviews for England internationals Dom Young and Herbie Farnworth who both shone with their new clubs. Farnworth earned Team of the Year honours and has recently been lauded by Shaun Wane after starring for England against Samoa.

Like so many before him, he's struggling to make the grade. From what I've read and seen, he's not far off though and he may just find the improvement (in his defensive play) to get another contract. I wonder if other players in the U.K. look at his situation and think either: a) they'd be better staying here or b) at least he gave it a go and, even if he doesn't get another contract he'll be on about 200 000 quid for next season. What I'm trying to say is that even if he apparently fails I don't see the attraction of the NRL to our players diminishing any time soon.

I’m sure Pryce is a half or full back?
