St Helens 2025 squad numbers with Jonny Lomax among notable changes

Post by josie andrews »

St Helens have become the latest club to confirm their squad numbers for the 2025 season

St Helens have become the latest club to announce their squad numbers for 2025, with captain Jonny Lomax switching jerseys for the first time in six seasons. The veteran halfback has been allocated the number seven jersey, the number that has previously been allocated to Lewis Dodd.

Lomax previously wore number six, but that has now been handed to new signing Tristan Sailor following his arrival from Brisbane Broncos. Fellow new recruit Kyle Feldt will wear number two, who has the unenviable task of following in the footsteps of Tommy Makinson, who has worn the jersey with distinction for the past decade.

Other new winger Lewis Murphy, arriving from Sydney Roosters, will wear number 20 while there are promotions for a number of the club's existing players.

Konrad Hurrell, off the back of signing a contract extension, will wear three next season, having previously worn 23. Curtis Sironen will wear 11 after Sione Mata'utia's departure, with Matt Whitley taking the number 16 in turn. George Delaney has also moved up to 19.

Mm. Lomax is no scrum half IMO unless they play split halves 🤔

I'm not so sure Sailor is a six either

Square peg into round hole (or three full backs into the one side if you look at it that way)
Back by demand.

On paper it does look a good squad.
They'll have a better year than last I'm pretty sure of that.
Their best signing for 2025 is Lee Briers. He will make a difference.

i'd say 1-17 looks ok, but very thin on experience below that. I'd also say Hurrell and Bennison are potential weak links but Murphy may start on the wing, so will be interesting to see if he goes that route

they are also very light in the prop area, if Walmsley or Paasi get injured (which based on the last couple of seasons is quite possible), so again a challenge for them to manage

i agree re Briers, but we all know, its difficult to play on the back foot all the time. so if the pack doesnt get on top / dominate, it will be tough for Briers to make a significant impact
