Our left side was fine (Marshall, Wardle, Nsemba) but not much happening elsewhere. Hope Field gets some passing lessons and some proper studs to play in for the next game. I didn't understand spelling Ellis for Hill, who's not a LF and we lost impetus when that happened. If we're not going to use Mago, then give the bench spot to someone else although I thought Byrne and to a lesser extent, Dupree, played well. I'm guessing we'll now lose Keighran for a match or two.
If killing the PTB carries on, we won't ever see that attendance again.
Hill offered us nothing and I thought at the end of last season he had gone downhill as well, no pun intended, Walters should have been on the bench for me. If you are going to take Ellis off then either Dupree or Thompson should go to loose, Hill literally looked like he was trying to run up a hill (again no pun intended) every time he had the ball, his legs couldn't keep up with his brain trying to tell him what to do.

It is the points system now so Keighran should be okay should he not, just has to toe the line though now for the season to avoid any ban, it was a silly swing at a player on the ground, firstly if the intent is to inflict some pain, then you go for the ribs, legal and hurts more TBH, he would have been better swinging his arm at the ball carrying arm to try and dislodge the ball, far more sensible, and if it comes off we potentially get the ball back on their try line

Was Paddy Mago carrying an injury?
If my memory is correct, I don't think he came on as sub until well into the 2nd half and then seemed to be on for about 10 minutes.

Everything has been said: tedious, frustrating and lacking imagination. The Sky commentator kept banging on about "how many hours since Wigan conceded a try". Is that their game plan now?

Mago was due to come on then Faz was given a yellow card. The coach decided to stand him down.

Yep, he's not the best defender in the world, so he kept someone more mobile on

on another note, i think Mago's effectiveness was impacted due to the slow potb. Defensive line set, up in our faces, and far easier to tackle than when he's got / getting a head of steam up

Intense game of players and speccies. We'll get over it.

Do we have an attendance?
21,748
Surprised to see such a low attendance figure seeing as I missed the game through being told it was not possible to buy two seats together. The stadium map showed a sprinkling of single seats still available, but nowhere near 3,000.

When I read on here that the club had given lots of free tickets away to schools etc. I thought it was worth ringing up to see if there was a possibility of some returns coming available. The woman I spoke to had difficulty understanding the question, and just kept repeating that all the tickets had been sold apart from the singles.

If there were empty groups of seats then the game was a loss leader in more ways than one.

Felt like both sides turned up with playoff levels of heart and defence. This matched up with first game rustiness in the attacking plays created a strange game with an equally strange result. I enjoyed it non the less! Can’t get too upset about the loss, if I can’t handle my team losing by one point due to some first game rustiness (on the back of a quadruple winning season) I’ll spend a lot of time upset 😆

21,748 was a record for an opening Superleague game. The attendance was 25% UP on last years game v Leigh, some folk to moan!

We’ve lost the first game of the season for the past 3 years now! So it doesn’t make much difference to the end of the season results
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
