He just looks like a backrower to me. Tall and not as sticky as most props. Seems ideal for running a bit wider out. I think you earn your spot in training with peet. Perhaps he's got the Leeds attitude that talent trumps work. Not at Wigan it doesn't, you need both.
i've posted previously that this is his season to stake his claim for the 2nd row spot. I know Faz has been given a contract extension, but Walters need to make that position his own, and Faz almost redundant / bench spot if he's going to succeed or its highly possible someone else will come through the ranks and he'll miss out
This was the point of my original post. Faz (or his agent) played a blinder talking about him moving on at the end of this season. This "talk" got Farrell an extension of a further 2 year, so one way or another he will play first team or be in the squad for the next 3 years - 2028.
This is a mute point considering how his effectiveness in the first team appeared to wane last season. Now add that fact to a 2028 team!!
Whether Peet can or will drop Farrell as his performances no longer indicate he is a first teamer is another thing. Like I stated with KPP and Junior, they only got their first team opportunity due to a serious injury to Isa. I can see Walters/Mason/Hirst etc etc leave if Farrell's form drops but continues to be selected as he is the captain
Im not sure the 'talk' of Farrell moving on got him another 2 years, I think it is more savvy planning on Wigan's part, he will be hard to replace and they need to bring a replacement in, without a drop off in what he brings to the team, I am hoping that Walters will be that main stay for us in the end
I would like to see Walters get a run in place of dare I say it Faz. It almost seems disrespectful to suggest such a thing of the great player he has been for many years, but for me Faz has lost a bit recently, as it has been alluded to before he is tends to run the ball in and turn his back on the opponent at the point of contact.
I liked the way Walters played at the back end of last season, he ran on to the ball at pace from deep to score a couple of tries like he did in the game against Leigh. I think he is being stifled at the moment, he must think it doesn't matter what he does he will be relegated to 18th man, his confidence is going to be affected.
I think he should definitely be in the seventeen at the very least instead of one of the three props that is the current choice week in week out. If need be he can have a spell through the middle, as can Ellis if we are pushed. There are many options to take a stint as prop, Walters is someone who is more flexible and in my opinion should be given the trust of the coaches, select him, give him a good run in the team, we are not getting the best at the moment from someone who could be a great asset.
Having just read through the thread, I'm reminded of the parents who know where their kids' headteacher has got it all wrong, or others who know better than the police about how to maintain law and order, or where the council have gone off the rails re road repairs and on and on and on.
I guess I'm old and it's the age of social media where everybody's opinion is as good as anyone's. It's given us Donald Trump and Elon Musk (which says enough for me).
Here it's just rugby league, thankfully. The forum is about opinions, so here's mine fwiw:
Matty Peet knows more about the relative merits of Faz and Sam Walters than me, or most people come to that. Apart from his superior understanding of the game (would you argue with your child's maths teacher about how to do an A-level question on exponential functions?), he has all the detailed stats, know about any injury niggles, and knows the character of every player and the effect they have on the rest of the team, how they respond to being behind, etc etc.
I've said that the forum is about opinions and you are all more than welcome to have yours. But then again, so am I - and this is it.

TV coverage:
Have I got this right? This Sky Sports Plus malarkey isn't an actual TV channel, therefore, you won't be able to watch the game down the pub. That's correct, isn't it? If so, might as well stay in and listen to Joe and Bilko.
It's available via the red button on Sky TV. Whether a pub uses that I've no idea, but you can watch it on TV and not need a computer etc. I'm just hoping I can get it on catch up or Wigan TV when I get back from Hull.

Same here, I have, for the first time got the red button to work on my TV, hopefully the pub barstaff should be able to give it a go on their remote?
I have been able to watch it on my smart phone before now on the Sky Sports app.
The red button on Sky Sports+ coverage has just started - fingers crossed and good luck!!!
