TYLER DUPREE TALKS THROUGH HIS AMERICAN HERITAGE AND THE ‘PROUD’ FEELING OF POSSIBLY REPRESENTING WIGAN WARRIORS IN LAS VEGAS.
The Warriors prop forward will fly out to the United States today ahead of the Club’s historic Betfred Super League clash against Warrington Wolves at the Allegiant Stadium this Saturday.
The ground-breaking clash will be the first Super League fixture to be played in the United States, and whilst the significance brings excitement for the whole sport, the location enhances the specialness for Dupree.
“It’s massive, not just for taking our sport to the United States from a UK perspective, but to play in the country where my family originates from,” Dupree said. “I’ve made sure my mum will be there for what will be a proud moment for the whole Dupree family.”
Dupree, who wore an American flag around his shoulders following Wigan’s Betfred Challenge Cup Final win over Warrington Wolves last year, is the maternal grandchild of ‘Champion Jack’ Dupree, a famous blues singer from New Orleans, whilst his uncle, Billy Joe Dupree, won the Super Bowl with the Dallas Cowboys in 1978.
Having only visited Florida previously, Dupree is excited to revisit the United States and experience Las Vegas for the first time alongside teammates and family members, who will travel from England to support.
“As I’ve grown up, I’ve become more interested in diving deeper into our family roots and exploring where the Dupree name originates from,” Tyler said. “My mum’s always wanted to go to New Orleans to see where her dad was brought up, and whilst the match won’t be played there, it will be great to experience another place in America.”
The Warriors kick off the first of four matches to be played inside the 65,000 capacity stadium this Saturday, as rugby league supporters can witness two NRL matches as well as an international between England Women and Australia Jillaroos.
“I’m hoping there’s going to be a massive crowd,” Dupree said. “We have the chance to showcase our talent as a team in front of supporters from many different countries. It’s the perfect opportunity for us to put a stamp down and let people know who we are.”

Dupree: Proud moment
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
