Salford Red Devils’ restricted squad options for Castleford game including ineligible stars

Post by josie andrews »

Salford Red Devils are back under salary cap restrictions imposed upon them by the Rugby Football League: and they look unlikely to be lifted before this Friday’s game against Castleford Tigers.

The Red Devils will only be able to select £1.2million worth of talent for that game as it stands – and their actions earlier in the season will now have a direct impact on Paul Rowley’s squad selection this weekend, it seems.

What is the point of Tiaki Chan being there?

Surely it will knock his confidence!

he's getting game time that he wouldnt at Wigan

i get the confidence argument but equally, being sat waiting for reserve games could have the same impact on him. At least at Salford he's getting a run out albeit, there may be some batterings for them

i also think that its a chance to prove himself to the Wigan coaching team. if he performs at Salford in adversity, that may do him some good too

Absolutely agree with this.

Right now he's way down the pecking order for us. Throwing himself into games for Salford they're not expecting anything out of due to their current situation is a bit of a win win for him. Gametime in the top league he wouldn't normally get and zero expectations so in reality, their isn't any real pressure. It would be great to see him have a really good game for Salford but in reality the team is threadbare so it isn't really expected

It is also a good opportunity for him to stand out in a crowd and be their best forward, if it is a depleted team, if he can show he can stand up and lead from the front then it is only a positive for him, the result will not be a reflection on him so he should hopefully not let it get to him.

Yes, apologies, I realise now it’s better for him to have game time.
