Wigan vs Hull

Well that was a fun afternoon to be a Welsh Wigan supporter...

Had a bad feeling about this because a)when we play a team in the cup and the league in quick succession we very rarely win both b) Every year, no matter how well we are playing we almost always manage to inexplicably lose to Hull.

The loss of Field and Keighran's ineffectiveness were big but there is still no way we should be losing from 22-6 up at home. Not sure what happened but there seemed a weird inevitability about that come back all the way through the 2nd half.

Did anyone properly see the tackle where Keighran was injured? It looked a bad one on the run at the time but with that Media Studies student style coverage from the BBC it was never shown effectively.

Bloody hell it sounds like 2006 again. I have no issue in losing a cc game sorry but for me i think that comp has had its day for me (sorry i know that comment will annoy some). Issue for me we saw it in Vegas and now in SL the team switches off when they think the game is done. And this was the senior players who should know better

Fair comment time to get back to basics maybe promote the idea the game is 80 mins long and should play to that time

Eckersley should’ve been at 1, you keep French and Smith at 6 and 7 and then have a forward play centre to take Kieghran off and we don’t lose any structure. Absolutely livid with that.

Much like everyone slated Byrnes form all knowing he was just bad but he had been carrying a injury all season.

No one stops anyone posting criticism, by the same line you can't have a paddy if someone thinks your post is bollocks.

I think its a fine line between criticism and praise.Some of us overpraise and vice versa.I , for one , dont know the poster and for all i know he might have more knowledge than most.I dont think its rollox that he thinks we got it wrong because matty did and he will know it.

Keighran I think got slightly pushed to then start losing high and he got hit by the cover player high. His knee and ankle got into an awful position and I thought it may have been better to get him off rather than persevere with him. It made things even worse when he went to 6 and we had no pace to take the line on.

I think we saw smiths best 20 min spell in a wigan jersey and possibly his worst 20 min spell in the second half.Lookimg back now im over the shock i think leaving keighran on did us with leeming an easy option at 6( as someone else posted). We dont half miss fields link play as the passing was so off point bar the first 20.It will hopefully be the kick up the arse we need and we will have to be miles better at leeds or we are gonna get spanked again.Time for farrimonds chance i reckon

Moving Bevan to fullback killed our momentum , better to have Hull defending him . Instead we are on the back foot . Zak to 1 leave Keiran on, less exposed if we are their half

So who goes on the wing?

In defence, it doesn’t really matter who goes there, you can have a full back and one winger cover the back field or drop the centre like Wardle and shuffle across. The main takeaway from today really is we weren’t prepared for injuries and as long as it’s learned from then the two available trophies with weeks off now available in the calendar should give us a good chance again.
