Salford Red Devils next player to leave all set for Super League switch

Post by josie andrews »

Salford Red Devils are close to finalising a deal that will see Brad Singleton head to Castleford Tigers

Brad Singleton is set to be the next player to leave Salford Red Devils with a move to Castleford Tigers in the works. All Out Rugby League understands the Super League club have been working on a deal to sign the Cumbrian and with Salford’s position still uncertain, and the Reds are now open to letting their players depart.

Castleford have been eager to add to their middle unit for months. Attempts to sign props ahead of the season were unsuccessful and they had even agreed a deal to sign Jack Ormondroyd before Salford distanced themselves from the deal.

But with Salford’s position worsening in recent weeks - the club had to sell Marc Sneyd to Warrington Wolves last week, their stance on player departures have now changed and that has prompted them to open talks with Castleford regarding a move.

It would be another blow to Salford head coach Paul Rowley but a real boost to Tigers boss Danny McGuire, who has been desperate to add to his pack. The Tigers have shown some good signs so far this season but the middle area of the field has been a real issue.

McGuire knows Singleton of course, having won trophies together as players at Leeds Rhinos. Now 32, the Cumbrian has won two Grand Finals and the Challenge Cup twice for good measure. He was part of the Leeds side that won the treble in 2015 and he has represented Ireland internationally.

If a deal is finalised today, he could make his debut when Castleford play Catalans on Saturday.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
