Wigan Warriors fell to defeat against Leeds Rhinos, but a moment after the game drew attention.
Matt Peet admitted he was not surprised by Harry Newman's post-match antics after an incident following Leeds Rhinos' victory over Wigan Warriors. Peet's side suffered a 12-10 defeat at Headingley in an engrossing battle, with Jack Sinfield's freak try at the end securing the win for the hosts.
But in the moments immediately after the game, Newman was involved in a coming together with Wigan halfback Harry Smith, with a spat between the pair appearing to be instigated by the Leeds centre patting the England playmaker on the head.
The pair had to be separated following a push and a shove, with footage of the incident available to watch on the All Out Rugby League Facebook page.
Peet admitted he had not seen the incident live but after the game, he said: "I've spoken to my players. Some players you're just not surprised when they're involved in incidents, are you? I don't think anyone will be surprised to see...
"There are some players that carry on when they win and some players don't. Normally the ones that win often, don't."
Wigan had hit the lead after Bevan French's second-half try but were unable to find a response after Sinfield's late try. It condemned the Warriors to rare back-to-back defeats but Peet was pleased with the performance of his side.
"A good game. It ebbed and flowed; I thought Leeds were the better team at the start of the game and points came. We grew into the game and raised the bar in the second half. I liked a lot of what we did defensively.
"We didn't get the result but plenty to be proud about, some lessons we'll learn but overall, I feel proud of the performance."

Matt Peet's swipe at Harry Newman after post-match incident
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Peet: Lessons we’ll learn
Matt Peet has given his full time thoughts as Wigan Warriors were beaten at Leeds Rhinos.
Peet: “In the end we didn’t get the result but there’s plenty to be proud about and some lessons we’ll learn.”
FT | Leeds Rhinos 12-10 Wigan Warriors.
MATT PEET HAS SHARED HIS FULL TIME THOUGHTS AS WIGAN WARRIORS WERE BEATEN 12-10 BY LEEDS RHINOS AT AMT HEADINGLEY STADIUM.
Despite tries from Liam Marshall and Bevan French, the Warriors were unable to take points in West Yorkshire as the hosts claimed the Betfred Super League Round 5 win.
At the full time hooter, Matt Peet said: “It was a good game which ebbed and flowed. Leeds were the better team at the start of the game and points came whereas we grew into the game and raised the bar in the second half. In the end we didn’t get the result but there’s plenty to be proud about and some lessons we’ll learn.”
On responding, Peet said: “Whether we’ve won or lost we look for a response from every game and things to improve on.If we’d have won by four points we wouldn’t be saying we were brilliant but because we lost by a couple we should still take the positives out of it. We will look at areas for improvement and if we keep doing that all season then it tends to put you in decent place.”
Providing an update on Abbas Miski, Peet said: “A decision was made in the warm up so it was pretty late. We knew he’d been carrying an injury and that there would be an opportunity for Douggie. Abbas is doing it tough at the moment and I’m really proud of the way he’s battling through the pain which is what a lot of people don’t realise behind the scenes. He needs a surgical procedure which we’ll get done when we can. We were hoping to get a few more games, but we’ll have conversations about bringing that forwards.”
On Jacob Douglas and Jack Farrimond, Peet added: “They grew into the game. [On Douglas] The fact is even the most experienced wingers drop high balls but it’s what happens next that’s important. I was hoping he’d react the way he did after the error happened which speaks volumes about him. He got better as the game went on and I’m really proud of him.
“[On Farrimond] He’ll be the first to pick the bones out of his decision making with the ball. I liked his physicality and energy which was quite inspiring. He was one of the first to bend his back and make good contact which other people followed.”
Next up for the Warriors, it’s back home to The Brick Community Stadium next Sunday 30 March to take on Salford Red Devils. Get your tickets HERE.

Re: Matt Peet's swipe at Harry Newman after post-match incident
Nearly as bad as Conner's approach to Douglas (no surprise there) after the first try.

They have 3 complete s**thouses in Newman, Connor and Bentley
