Just thinking were those stats can be found, many thanks!

Agree with your conclusion, I'll add a different perspective - a lot of fans of other clubs will say we are dirty or cynical but that would only affect the number of penalties we give away (and I'll bet we are near the top of that stat) not how many we get!
I'm a saddo and totted up the received penalties from the individual game stats on the superleague site. Our discipline has actually been ok but the oppositions is super human!

Leigh gave us one penalty on opening night. They've given away 23 in the other 4 games they've played.

Huddersfield didn't get penalised at all in our game but gave given away 22 in their other 4 fixtures.

It's enough to give you a complex!
Yep!

https://www.superleague.co.uk/stats/club-stats is also out there, I read it as we have given 16 pens away?

Wigan Warriors 16
Leeds Rhinos 17
Warrington Wolves 20
Hull KR 22
Yeah, we have the best record in terms of giving penalties away, which makes it all the more baffling that we still lose most, if not all penalty counts and getting only 9 in 5 games must be some sort of record low.

We need a couple of characters like Peacock and Sinfield in that great Leeds side, where refs would gain their thoughts on penalties for and against before deciding they were right.

Reading in the League Express that 58 penalties were awarded in the 6 SL games, Wigan given 1.
The other 11 clubs were of course given 57 between them.
Perhaps Jack Smith can tell us what happened to our other 4.
We'll have to try and track the repeat sets.

Repeat sets were 3-0 apparently (to Leeds, although I probably didn't need to type that).

As I've said elsewhere, we at least avoided our fate with Jack Smith at Wire last year, where a team of Wire kids won the penalty count 13-1.

It's simply not possible for this to be the case mathematically. Something is preventing refs treating every game in the same way. Questions absolutely need to be asked. Teams don't suddenly become squeaky clean against then then regress to the mean. Logic would say when playing a higher placed team they are likely to concede more as they need to try everything to gain a small advantage. Anyone asked any of the ex refs on X?

As i've got older i have tried to become less blinkered when it comes to reviewing the refs, especially during games as we very often only see things in Cherry and White (or whatever club the fan supports)

However, i have watched quite a few games on sky as a neutral and have found myself being more critical than when i watch a Wigan game as they are so inconsistent with their rulings within the game, often overlooking indiscretions for 1 team, whilst penalising the other for the exact same thing. I get that we dont want games to be stopped completely by the refs whistle, but equally it may need an early marker to set to the tone for what will be penalised, and thus the teams know where they stand. As with most sports, usually the best games are the ones that you dont notice the ref on the pitch, but it feels that far too often we are just seeing refs at the centre of attention, even my wife who is completely new to the game has asked why do they always go to the screen when they score a try thingy :) :)

As a general rule you would think that the side on top in a game would normally get the most penalties especially if the other team is tiring in defence, so some of the stats being produced completely contradict that in terms of how many penalties Wigan are receiving v conceding, which i agree is somewhat baffling

Definitely seems statistically unlikely that our penalty count is so different from the rest. We should do a significance test. We could prove there are different standards in our games vs the rest of SL.

I'd say the very forceful high shot on Eckersley at Leeds is a good example of something that was ignored in our games that is very likely to be picked up in others. TBH I thought he should have stayed down, I would have expected Leeds down to 12 with a stright red. I'm surprised the disciplinary didn't spot that on the review.

Surprised that Disciplinary didn't mention it? I wasn't.
The fact that it was 'missed' in the game by both the onfield and Video Referee should have been the starting point for an investigation and then why the Disciplinary also 'missed' (and I'm using the word loosely here, other words are available) it ought to be addressed................. but it really won't.

It's felt for at least last season and this, that only we actually get reffed during games. I do think a major factor in it all is the amount of focus placed on Wigan's tactics around the ruck, in trying to slow down the play the ball and it's leading to the referees being so focused on us, that they half forget that there are two teams on the field.

We've worked hard on our own discipline looking at the stats but the knock on impact of that seems to be that even less light is being shone on the opposition. Leeds are a perfect comparison in terms of penalties given away. We have given 16 and them 17, yet they have received 31 to our 9. I expect we'll probably get a good few against Salford on Sunday, who are the most penalised team in the league but it will no doubt revert back to the one team approach at HKR and then on Good Friday.
