What do others think? There definitely is something going on!Seems the directors of the RFL who resigned decided to scrap the salary cap without asking the clubs. The clubs refused to back the decision apart from one club yes Wigan. That is really what Vegas was about Matty Johns and getting some financial support in the UK.
Coming through Leigh Derek Beaumont not happy as Leigh not invited in and London are! Brian Carney is a big mate of Johns that was what he alluded to on Sky. He knows what’s going on.

RFL etc
Got sent this the other day, don’t know where it’s from originally or how true it is!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Maybe. I saw the other thread but thought this could be just chit chat, that’s why I put it in this forum.Charriots Offiah wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 6:13 pmA breakaway?josie andrews wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 4:33 pm Got sent this the other day, don’t know where it’s from originally or how true it is!

I think it’s clear something is going on that’s for sure it amuses me that Derek would assume the Aussies had even heard of Leigh, questionable kit choices aside and one cup win does not make a dynasty

Re: RFL etc
We've wanted a successful club in London for decades without it happening.
One way would be to abolish the salary cap, or at least double it. You can't run a business enterprise in London with a North of England cost base.
Part of the rumours I've seen on the internet was a proposed eight team league each playing each other three times. Being someone who'd prefer a 14 team League an 8 club comp would be nonsense.
I do think if the new people brought in London and Toulouse then there'd be a real chance of success. My hand grenade would be to replace Salford with a Manchester club. I've always been convinced a named Manchester club would attract investment and crowds which Salford never has. A new Manchester club going straight into Super League.
I'd be ok with a League of -
Wigan, Warrington, St Helens, Leigh, Manchester, Leeds, Wakefield, Hull FC, Hull KR, London, Catalans, Toulouse. To go from that 12 to 14 with maybe a Hudds/H'fax/Kirklees club with also Avignon. Catalans have proved that the revenue created by a French RL club is far in excess of English SL clubs. So much so they now demand Catalans pay for the transport costs of other SL travelling to Perpignan.
Ken Davy seems to have smelt the coffee with buying The Shay. A combined club with the amateur support of local clubs like Siddall could provide the player pool all these clubs will need looking into the future.
Clubs demanding Nigel Wood be re-instated has convinced me that Super League is on the threshold of going back wards at an alarming rate.
The idea of an NRL project with new TV partners, abolishing of the salary cap, Clubs having to provide a player pathway with four teams of Scholarship, Academy, Reserves and First Team will provide a player pool which will be required. Also, each club should run a referees school to provide match officials for each area and each team level.
Broadly I believe something along the lines of above would take the sport forward bring investment, crowds and players being paid substantially more then at present.

A lot of good points in this post that I hadn’t twigged previously.Wiganer Ted wrote: ↑Fri Mar 28, 2025 7:50 pm We've wanted a successful club in London for decades without it happening.

For the point around Ken Davy, the thrust of what Ted says is likely the only sound reason for buying The Shay. Or at least to me.
The reasoning of it merely being a temporary home for Huddersfield, until they build a new stadium in the town, must assume the Davy family are happy to eventually write-off the Shay costs.
In short, who will buy the Halifax stadium if the new owner no longer needs it?

This will be a super duper super league Europe and if it comes to fruition it’ll have money too
