Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

As for the cup I’m putting my tipster hat on now and calling a Leigh Catalan final there you you can all thank me later for that golden tip
That would be an absolute nightmare scenario for the RFL, it would be a very small final attendance.

So where do you think Marshall stands in that hierarchy, then, Firestarter? :D

Wouldn’t it just, haha to me Leigh have stacked their squad to win the challenge cup thought it first game their squad is paper thin so it makes sense to optimise what they can do well in,Catalan are well the unknown in all of this KR should do them but I don’t know I can see them being done the the French side.

Good question.I also think marshy has lost a yard or two but he makes up for it in so many ways.Marshy is as good as most wingers and makes up for his lack of size with effort and workrate.Dont get me wrong i rate ashton but hes not as fast as field

i was listening to the game on radio taking daughter back to Leeds

both sides sounded bang average with lots of mistakes.

Did Saints have someone injured by the way, the radio commentator (may have been off BCC iplayer as daughter was watching it), never shut up about it, and had Bell come in from 18th man, so technically they didnt lose a player :)

Re Ashton, i think if i remember correctly made 3 breaks, and was stopped by Welsby in all 3. So either he aint as fast as everyone thinks or give some credit to Welsby and it was good full back play

I think it was a bit of both pieman. He defo didnt have confidence in his pace but also could have passed. To be fair batchelor bombed a try for saints as well by being greedy

yes, the commentary said he'd bombed one of the breaks, think it was Dufty in support

Yeah, I agree. Marshy is quick, but he's not the quickest. I do rate Ashton, though, he is surely one of the best wingers in the comp.

Great game for the sports neutral - RL neutrals might focus on the mistakes but I enjoyed the physical commitment from both sides. Slightly off topic but who would make the test series from those squads?

I'd have to say Welsby and Ashton for sure, Williams a strong maybe, Walmsley if fit and willing?

Just on the topic of best wingers i was on a facebook post yesterday relating to the Hull v HKR match

Claims that Davies and Burgess are currently the best 2 english wingers and should play v the Ozzies, but they wont get picked because they dont play for Wigan came into the thread many times. There are some fans with blinkered views about Shaun Wane and his selections. If i recall correctly even as champions for the last 2 years there hasnt been too many Wigan players selected, and the 2 players mentioned are ex Wigan players so more likely to get selected than not with their argument.
with that in mind if Dom Young is fit, he's probably a shoe in playing in the NRL and then i would think Tom Johnstone would be my 2nd choice. Then you have a group with Marshy, Burgess, Davies and Ashton all in contention and versatility may come into play
