Team v HKR
Re: Team v HKR
Glad to see O’Neil back.
He’s an edgy one but we’ve missed that.

Incredible win after not looking good for us first half.
That's what hanging in can do.
Second half showed what our lads can do and what the opposition have to do to stop them
Could be a turning point in the season.

Without looking into it too deeply, they can’t have been happy with Wane basically saying Smith is a guaranteed starter against the Aussies. It didn’t need the constant camera action on Lewis through the game either.Caboosegg wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 10:35 pm We had some luck in that game only being 12-10 at half time, a different Wigan came out the second half (whatever the reason).
I must say though sky are appalling, the interview with Marshall started with Look at these mistakes Smith made and ended with a karaoke question with a bit of positivity about rugby in the middle.
Maybe I got spoilt watching the Vegas game on TV but if your trying to sell a sport maybe not make the first bit of a section be about negatives.
The subs tonight seemed to work perfectly in the back end. Leeming added the zip I think we’ve missed from him and Mago did some damage. We won the fitness battle in the end as they started to lose players. Did Byrne only do 20 mins again? I saw Walters and Dupree doing the most minutes and putting themselves about which is exactly what we need from them. When O’Neill gets up to match speed I think we shut most teams down comfortably with his defensive intensity.

Got to be happy with that result and most aspects of the performance.
I think we doubled down on this one as its a "four pointer", we wouldn't want to be playing them at their place in the playoffs.

They are. I thought Marshy handled it pretty decently, to be fair. Best SL contest I've seen this season by a distance.Caboosegg wrote: ↑Fri Apr 11, 2025 10:35 pm We had some luck in that game only being 12-10 at half time, a different Wigan came out the second half (whatever the reason).

I just searched on Google for "Hull KR v Wigan player ratings". All I saw was the same list of HKR player ratings, nothing on Wigan. I even tried "Wigan v Hull KR player ratings", but got the same result. Is this a SM fail by the club? Get our story out there first?

Great game that. What more can you ask for in SL than to be 2 points apart after 60 and not know the winner. Great atmosphere came through the TV too. This is just what we want to bring in the viewers and get that TV deal up.
And the to top it off we scored some great tries. Wardles try was amazing, he just went into overdrive. I didn't realize he had that much pace, probably because he's so classy with his hip swerve and feeding his winger that he doesn't need to show it.
French sniffed out every chance and capitalised on them all. I can forgive the odd dodgy defensive decision tonight. I can also forgive smiths couple of slightly off last plays, because the rest were spot on, and he recognized the exact right moment to run, when HKR were out on their feet. Great game manager I think.
Overall very happy and I would have been pretty happy if we'd lost that because it was a quality match between two top sides.
My only concern again is that we didn't have much territory for most of the game. We can score from anywhere and we did. But it won't happen every time. We're going to need a few more sets starting near the half way line in general. We have won a bunch of matches in that style though, not least the WCC.

Very good win against a good side, I admit I didn't think we would win this one. Came out red hot in the 2nd half. What's the crack with Bryne though? Injured? He had 2 carries for 11 meters. Miski makes a difference when he plays and it's no surprise they are holding off his operation. The tough carries he makes from our own half are brilliant. Liking the look of Eckersley the more I see of him, he certainly can move! Didn't realise he was that fast. Great result going into Good Friday next week.
