Harvie Hill

Post by Karl Carpenter »

I was watching the replay of Jai Field’s second try yesterday and was struck by the incredible joy and emotion displayed by Harvie Hill. It’s hard to believe that he wants and is being allowed to leave Wigan. Is it too late to backtrack on this contract?

I don't know the ins and outs of his move or if it's even on, but players can want away from a club they love playing for to pursue more gametime or other opportunities. Had Thompson and/or Havard been fit he may well have not been in the squad to play

Like all the others he plays the game for money. I’ve no doubt that if Wigan had matched Hull’s offer then he would have stayed. Good luck to the lad.

He wants game time, that’s the only reason he is leaving.

..and most, if not all, of them are telling the truth, especially the younger ones.

Sometimes Wigan get it wrong and the player goes on to become a very good player at a different club.

Sean Long springs to mind.

I disagree players are motivated by money, and rightly so. If they just wanted game time they could play at St Pat’s. As for Long, the reason he left was not down to his ability or being selected.

I forgot to say, how does Harvie know that he will get more game time at Hull?

Exactly the same with Liam Byrne they want to be playing

Fair enough but I believe that is only half of the equation. There are no guarantees that they will get more playing time. It looks like they’ve decided that the grass is greener on the other side. I am sure that the number of medals they receive will be far less though. I can maybe understand it a bit more from Liam’s perspective but Harvie is young enough to break into the Wigan team.
