Wigan squad for Hull FC (SLR9)
Re: Wigan squad for Hull FC (SLR9)
I didn't think either side were at their best but it's a good win. We just need to keep ticking them off and ensure a top 2 finish.
In terms of the players, I thought Miski and French were the pick of the backs and Walters the forwards. It's rinse and repeat with the lad at the minute-long minutes, multiple carries, 100+ metres and 40+ tackles. Harvie Hill is showing we've lost a good one as well at the minute. A far bigger blow than losing Byrne on this seasons showings.

Wrong, I don't want the Video Ref, full stop.Mike wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:36 pmWe would have had two good tries ruled out without the VR. I have always said that the video ref is a complete waste of time, we need to get rid of it, the refs have become too over-reliant on it, they can't make a decision anymore.
I am expecting the first day of magic to finish at about 11:00pm, with 3 games of inept refereeing.
There's always going to be controversial incidents, trys etc., you just have to live with them.
The whole involvement of the Video Farce, has become totally unacceptable, taking far too long to make decisions and being involved at stoppages in play by the Ref to see if anything supposedly illegal has happened in a tackle.
Get rid of it.

I agree with Mike on this one. The danger is that fans can become ref watchers. I did it more today because of the controversy over penalties.Ipinwigan wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 8:51 pmWrong, I don't want the Video Ref, full stop.Mike wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 6:36 pmWe would have had two good tries ruled out without the VR. It makes me think of lad I know who's a Rhinos fan. He has a photographic memory of every refereeing decision. One time we came back from holiday and met him at the bus stop in Leeds. Leeds v Wigan had been played that day. He asked me what I thought of the game, I pointed to our cases and said I hadn't seen it.
For the next 20 minutes, he listed every wrong decision the ref had made!!! All went against Leeds of course.
I've said before that I learned a lot from a bloke (a Wigan fan) at CP when I was about 13 or 14. I was ranting about a ref's decision. - "That was never a try!" - and he just said "Look in tomorrow's paper, son".

Saying this doesn't get away from the fact that the Video Ref is being used far too often and takes too long to make a lot of the decisionsmorley pie eater wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 9:04 pmI agree with Mike on this one. Re: Wigan squad for Hull FC (SLR9)
They should just go to the Aussie system IMO. Ref gives a try, the players get in to their positions and the goal kicker starts to line up his shot, all why the VR is silently looking at replays in the background. He confirms the try and we crack on or if he finds major doubt, it's looked at in a bit more depth and usually turned over. It's so much more streamlined and a far better experience for the viewers.

You’re bang on Morley about fans becoming ref watchers but something has to be done about the time taken it is killing the game, the bunker works down under because they are quick and the game can carry on but this situation has got out of hand.morley pie eater wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 9:04 pmI agree with Mike on this one. I said when the CC was brought in that I thought it worked fine in the NRL, but was not convinced it would translate well into SL. Not unless a lot more money was spent, obviously. And I stick to that view. And there should be a time limit. Also, the chances of the CC disappearing are frankly zero. It's here to stay.

The only one that took a while today was miskis. Tell me that was an easy one that you could tell straight away one way or the other. In fact everyone that could tell straight away said no try and it actually was one. Took 90 seconds or something. Big deal. Injuries can take longer than that.Ipinwigan wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 9:12 pmSaying this doesn't get away from the fact that the Video Ref is being used far too often and takes too long to make a lot of the decisionsmorley pie eater wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 9:04 pmI agree with Mike on this one. I think the main complaint here is not the decisionw being made, but the time taken. So to solve that we need more money to upgrade the tech available. Seeing all th angles totally in sync, worked by the trained refs not the TV director etc. So that's part of the negotiation for the next deal IMO.
Re: Wigan squad for Hull FC (SLR9)
It took about 5 minutes to make that decision, which is just far too long, which both Peet and Cartwright were displeased with in their post match interviews.Mike wrote: ↑Sun Apr 27, 2025 10:08 pmThe only one that took a while today was miskis. Matty went on to say that it is putting people off watching the games.
The game isn't about getting everything exactly correct, human error will always occur, just make it watchable.
