Just been announced on bbc radio manchester that wigan have signed a second row forward from ............wait for it Swinton, Someone by the name of Jordan James ?, Players from nl2 now eh Great stuff.

He played for Castleford that gained promotion last year and he turned a move down from Whitehaven to join Wigan, When i heard the news it said "Wigan have signed second row forward" i thought straight away Solomona, But then they said Jordan James, Who the hell is Jordan James, I can't pass judgement on the lad before he has even played a game for us i know that but when your expecting Solomona ??????? Oh well.

Don't write these lads off before you've even seen them. People laughed at us for signing Cowie and McGinty, yet those two went and took the entire Brisbane pack on on their own.

At the moment beggars can't be choosers. It's about signing whoever's available to plug the current gaps in our defences.

If we sign established stars on a lot of money some people say why aren't we promoting our own academy players & giving other good british ladss a chance instead of getting in over-paid Aussie prima donnas. If we sign a promising British player some people say we are going down the nick, buying lower-league players, not being ambitious enoughm preparing for Division 1, blah, blah, blah.

So, on the basis that the club can't win no matter what it choses to do, why don't we just have a look at the lad and try to assess whether he has promise.

James is a Welsh international, 25, playing back row, and helped Cas get promotion to SL last year.

Good luck to him, I hope he's a real success with us.

For the record, other losers we have signed from lower league teams in the fairly recent past are Terry O'Connor, Neil Cowie & Jason Robinson.

I am not so sure it's as dismal as all that. We just need some bodies. They don't have to do anything flash - just tackle, take the hits and work like trojans. Assuming we can get them fitter (which is a massive assumption given that we cannot even get our squad fit after a massive pre-season), then they could do a useful job. It's not as if we are relying on them to make play or breaks.

What annoys me more than anything is the official Wigan site, There is not a mention of it on there, A few comments on rlfans say he is very average, But then again they would on there, Mostly Stains fans and they ain't even heard of him, But he would be crap to them because he is now a Wigan player.

I think needs must at the moment - so I'm not too concerned about signings from the lower division.

It's a golden opportunity for these lads and they won't lack enthusiasm. Plus, if they play well, it'll be a kick up the backside for the "established" players we have in current squad.

Ian has admitted that he is continuing to look for players to bolster the Warriors squad particularly with the situation the club finds itself in with Logan, Paleaaesina, Hock, Hansen and Prescott all injured, Kris Radlinski retired, and Bryan Fletcher out with a three game suspension,

"I have never been involved with a club with so many major injuries, we have basically a full pack of forwards out, some big guys. We are trying to bring in new faces, we did ask about David Solomona but Wakefield said he was not available and so that's that. It is early in the season and clubs don't want to lose quality star players. We need to find people to bolster the size of the squad. We are looking in National One and Two, we don't want to expose more of our youngsters."

I think he's right there...the teenagers aren't ready yet.
