welldone wigan
Re: welldone wigan
I'm sorry but it's a very sad day when we celebrate a defeat that equates to nearly 10 tries. It's like going out to pull Angelina Jolie and coming home with Jo Brand and feeling pleased for yourself.
Come on Doris, no-ones looking.

Yes, played much better as a team today than last week but still lost by 38 points so a longway to go but we were missing Calderwood, Brown, Logan, Paelaesina, Fletcher and Tickle out of what seems to be the starting 17 this season so hope for the future.
Agree with the posting on Jordan James, he looks big and mean and perhaps with a few weeks full time training, assuming he has gone full time, does anyone know?, he could be a useful squad player. Jonkers I suspect will not be staying at the end of his month and Wilkes even if he came out of Division 1 does not seem as likely to stay the pace as James.
Richards still sloppy in defence which is surprising after his play last year in the NRL, o'Loughlin seemed to be having one of his poorer games today, Ashton with his try, his 2 tackles forcing Hardman into touch and the 'save' suggests the new coach should be playing him uninterrupted at full back until his form dips, Orr to be fair was lively all game with some nice little darts and another 'save' on Long.
Many of you defended Seu Jimmy when I complained about his dilatory efforts to get back in the defensive line at Wakefield in the cup but that again was referred to but not seen as he was so far away from play on the Sky commentary.
All right, we lost 48-10 but it was a much much more enthusiastic performance than last week at Wakefield, the new coach has something to work with after all.

I don't think anyone is celebrating the defeat. I can't stand getting beaten by saints. But no-one expected us to get anywhere close to saints today and we didn't, but it's the way the players reacted to getting beaten. It shows there are some foundations to be built on. Would you prefair the team to keep going for the whole 80 mins or, like recent weeks, give up and let saints get another record score against us?Joe Soap posted:

we gave 100% for each other, but i wish we could get one of them to be a verbal captain on the pitch, the way hanley, edwards & gregory used to be.

Re: welldone wigan
The lads tried really hard and were so much better. They still panic near the line with the ball but that is to be expected. The biggest problem we have is the lack of forward muscle. No Tickle today as well. The guys naturally tire.
mmmm, looks like I am the minority here. I understand fully that we need these guys but for me I see the Northern Ford guys as weak links. I felt James, Wilkes were both guilty of misreading defence and went high conceding many penalties. As it stand now though we need them.
Richards was a let down for me as was Moran at fullback. Ashton is somebody we need to keep playing, I though Goulding showed a great appetite too for the game. Note Goulding is a left centre and Ashton generally prefers the left side too so both were out of position today. People may laugh but I would go for Ashton at fullback, dallas right winger, gleeson right centre, goulding left centre, richards left wing, two halfbacks whoever are favoured as a steady backline.

Re: welldone wigan
for me one of the most important things we need to do is two half backs playing together week in week out,two who know each others games.most of the good form sides have them playing together all the time ie deacon/harris.i don't like slaging off players, but i don't think moran is good enough to pull the strings without a regular half back partner.

It's hard to know what to do as Higham did okay. I think v weakler teams we need Moran at 7, probably with Orr at 6. I think the main thing is we need a few more big fellas back. The likes of Fletcher, Pale etc
Re: welldone wigan
Think we are pleased because at least we looked like we were making a step in the right direction Joe. Been a very strange week - after last Friday I thought Saints would put a cricket score past us but we had them rattled early on (not for long I'll grant you) but with players coming back and a new coach in charge who knows? The dream is still alive that we get them in the Challenge cup - assuming we clear the next hurdle - and beat them (I'll get me coat!)Joe Soap posted:

Never argue with an idiot. He will bring you down to his level and beat you with experience.
