From the St Helens website and Wikipedia for Bradford:-

Millward @ Saints - WCC in 2001 (fair enough, I was wrong about that); Superleague in 2000, 2002; Challenge Cup in 2001, 2004.

Noble @ Bulls - WCC in 2002, 2004, 2006; Superleague in 2001, 2003, 2005, Challenge Cup in 2003.

No comparison there, Noble wins hands-down 3 SL titles vs 2, 3 WCC vs 1.
Hold on Fraggle. I'd hardly call it hands down. IMO Noble just edges it. You conveniently forgot to mention Millward's better CC record in your summation. Surely it is much harder to win the CC over 5 rounds than to beat a team straight off the plane from Aus? :o

You are very welcome Brian - hope you enjoy your time with us I think you will bring some great ideas with you and think our own boardroom members may just give you the backing which you will require. Optimism returns!

Noticed this website earlier and the wording on the home page made me smile:

I have a theory as regard Im. If you look he was much more successful early in his Saints career. I believe he came to the UK at a time when flat attack Brett Kimmorley / Melbourne Storm was all the rage and it was successful at that time. I believe he lost touch with how the NRL was changing and very much like Chris Anderson, he was stuck with one method of playing. For his own sake I think he should return to Aus and reeducate himself.
I believe he came to St Helens after doing pretty much nothing at Leigh and took over from a very good coach before him with a not so bad team. What did he do when Scully or any other of their 'big' names were out?
I'd check your facts, MrsL. IIRC he took Leigh from where we are now to the top of the league the very next season.

Hmmm, maybe. But a trophy's a trophy, you can't dismiss it just because the rules of that competition say only two teams take part, the same as you can't judge cup runs equally if a team has played part-time NL1 clubs for most of its cup run (and I'm not suggesting that Saints did so, but just for arguments sake one could say our 2002 triumph, for example, was made easier by playing the likes of Whitehaven and UTC on our way to Murrayfield). Taking out last year's Superleague and this year's World Club Challenge, both are matched on league championships, and so I really don't think Noble could be said to compare unfavourably to Millward. I don't remember Millward's Saints teams having a bad start like Bradford's last year before winning titles, which I think will help us this year as well.

Just to edorse all the other messages that welcome Brian to Wigan ,the fans will be backing him all the way lets hope MO and DW do to.If Brian can keep us in SL this year then his job will be done and hopefully next year win us a few cups.Hope MO dosen't get too impatient and want success overnight i do not think this will happen this year next year is a different matter.Look at Salford over the last 3 years they have built a side to match any body and believe in themselves. We want a stable side and a stable coach who can build a team up over a few years.I n Brian Noble i think we have the best coach in the league lets hope he can bring us success i know the fans will be behind him but let us be patient success will come to us .Welcome Brian

I am also pleased that Noble has joined, although I'm not at all sure that the coach is the root of Wigan's problems at the moment. For me, it is more the structure of the team and the personel in key positions. One thing I would like to see is a few moves in the transfer market for players, with salary cap space made by releasing (paying off with Whelans money) some of the players that simply don't fit.

Having said that - good luck at Wigan Brian.

One down side of this is that I have to right *another* profile (which will only be up for 6 months if recent history is anything to go by :exc: ). Can anyone help - email me a profile of Brian's career to date and I will stick it on his page. Alternatively, post here and i will give you permissions to edit his profile directly.

yes welcome to Wigan Mr. Noble and I wish you very good luck because you will need it. Two years is quite a short contract, but who knows maybe those two years won't be needed with the way things are run down at the JJB. I would just like to know if the rumers are true that players are coming over with him and who they will be? :doz:
:eusa2: anyway heres to Brian Noble :eusa2:
