My father used to go way back when and they would sit on benches in front of the perimeter walls. Not sure what the correct name for these was. Later, he always talks about the record attendance match v Saints. Wigan v Manly was the best night for pure atmiosphere that I have been to and some of the years like Mission Impossible when they were playing 3 matches every 7 days were awesome too.
Re: First match?
First game I ever really remember was the 1985 Wigan v Hull CC final, what a first game to watch. I watched it on TV and ever since I've been a Wigan fan, living in Oldham I've had stick all my life. Growing up I used to go to Watersheddings to watch Oldham as I had no way of getting to Central park as a kid. Once I got into my teens though I started getting the bus over, over 2 hours traveling each way, but I loved it.

My first game was sometime in the late 70's taken by my Dad. Can't remember which one and I was not a regular back then. The first game I remember was the 84 CC final.taskmaster posted:

I was away at Uni until '81 so didn't see much for the four years previous to that and then went to live in London for 11 years so Wembley was my home ground!
Made regular trips up to CP during that time and made sure I never missed a boxing day match but I was certainly glad of Wigan's regular trips to the twin towers.
