Wigan Pitch

Post by warriors »

Did you see the state of the pitch? It was like a mud bath. There wasnt that much grass, it needs to be sorted out.
I cant believe that they let it get to that state. it will even worse if it was a rainy day. i dont think that they will be able to have a game their. :(

Certainly no great help to the way we play, it was awful today - looked like the farmer had only recently left after digging his spuds up!

Pitch looked dry enough just the grass was very thin and pulled up on every tackle. We're lucky it was warmer today than it was yesterday or it would have been frozen. Ground staff have a hard job on their hands before next Sunday.

Nothing can be done so we will just have to put up with this every season unless drastic action is taken. The pitch is too low in comparison to the drainage channel - The Duggy. The level of the pitch is about the same as the Duggy in times of rainy weather and so the water has nowhere to go so stays in the grass and that in turn turns to mud. The only option would beto raise the pitch level by about five or six feet so that natural drainage would take away excess water - the bottom few rows of seats would be lost but at least the pitch would be better. However don't think this can be done due to cost. The developers are to blame for this as it was built on the flood plain of the Duggy and was well known for flooding every year without fail. Wigan will always be a dirty team (not in that sense) but due to mud year in year out - will just have to put up with it.

think it will only be a problem for us it rains! it was'nt quite as bad as it is now this time last season, but it was'nt good. soon as the sun starts coming out and the footy season ends its going to improve. just have to hope latics dont make the play offs!
