Because there have been some players who have overcome the same injuries and have gone on to be just as good, if not better, than they were before the injury. Sometimes risks need to be taken when it comes to players, particularly ones who play in completely different competitions and given both players had had injuries before and were able to overcome them then why should there be any reason to think this time would be any different? Especially for Vaealiki who overcame a very serious injury just to be playing NRL in the first place.

We keep signing NRL crocks.

I don't believe i was actually raving about the way they are playing now. That is something i don't see enough of to comment on. All i was doing was stating facts. And i think if you had watched the games these two players had played before going over there, you would know what i was talking about. I don't however think that you can bag a league who's standards are still very much higher than your own (not meant as an offensive comment to anyone else reading this)

They were our centre pairing for some time and obviously it's going to make a big difference if you have other quality players around you. I'm not saying that you're wrong in what you said, but in my personal opinion i don't think that Lyon made Vaealiki look like something he wasn't.

Vaealiki played in the NRL for over a year before Lyon secured a spot in first grade. There were also many times that they did not play together, in particular when Lyon broke his arm and was out for some time. During this time Vaealiki's game did not suffer. He also played for NZ in both centre and fullback and did a great job in the matches he played. I think you may be right to some degree in that he probably thrived with another quality player there. I think another reason his game may have been so good with us is that our team were all very close mates, with a lot of the guys actually living together and spending the majority of their time together. That's bound to give the team and players a bit of a boost. Anyway just my opinion

lack of confidence/fear of being badly injured again. Robbie Paul has never been the same since he smashed his arm.

This is quite possible. He injured his neck quite a while back and it took a while for him to get back to running into tackles hard, and that was not as serious an injury as this one. He also loses a lot of confidence when he knows his form is not at its best which then in turn makes it worse

I have no doubt that the NRL is a tougher comp. But the standards are falling when people like these two and Craig Smith can still make a living in it.

I'm not saying that at all. They both have different strengths and weaknesses. I'm not going to state my opinions on this because they would obviously be biased by the fact that Vaealiki was my favourite Parra player and because of what happened with Jamie in his time here.

All i was saying was that in my personal opinion i don't think that Vaealiki was made to look like a good player only because he was playing alongside Lyon. I think that Vaealiki is a class player and i don't know why he is not performing over there. I wasn't actually commenting at all about Lyon's talent

Vaealiki and Seu Seu are no longer making a living in the NRL and last time they played in the NRL they were both playing much better than they have been of late. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with your competition, i don't have any idea why it is that they are not playing at the same level now. I just don't think that you can say because they are playing at a lower level now that that is any reflection on the standards of our comp . When they were making a living in the NRL they were playing much better football which is why they were seen as good players. If someone is going to make comments about the NRL's standards when they view them as good players then i think it is only fair that they should have had to have seen the style of footy they were playing in the NRL before making judgements. That goes for any player.

As for Craig Smith, personally i'm not a fan, but he is doing ok over here. No one is actually raving about him though.

You certainly have not offended me, I always read your posts with great interest,
The two people having a go always blame mo when a player for some reason do not produce the goods, But in the same instance praise the guy when a player he signed becomes a world beater, I agree with everything you say, Mo signed these two players on there performance in the nrl ect, So is it chairmans mo's fault that they are not producing the same form as they where in the nrl??, I think not, We as a team are going through a very bad patch at the moment and a lot of people are looking for any excuse as to why, We have the money we have the players and we have the coach, In the words of the terminator "We'll be back".
So keep your posts coming VG, I for one always enjoy reading them.

I know how that feels. Parra are going through a bad spell this year too. The way we played our trials and started our year, people were expecting big things, particularly after some great buys for this year. Unfortunately it hasn't turned out so good. We have a great coach who, much to my disappointment, is leaving us next year and we are getting a coach who not too many people think much of, including many of the players. There's talk of a number of players getting released from contracts, we have shown some great footy but can't seem to keep it going for 80 minutes. Our team appear to be all over the place, players aren't all getting along like our previous teams. Can't even look to next year as i'm really not a fan of the coach we're getting or the players rumoured to be coming here.

Ahhh what we endure for our teams hey. Oh well hopefully things get much better for both of us.
