Wigan to keep Dobson for 2007

Post by ancientnloyal »

How good a headline would that be? But if wigan wanted to, could we keep Dobson? buy him off Cronulla? would we want him? would cronulla not sell for any price?

I for one would like to keep him, his oal kicking record speaks for its self. probably the first main kicker since faz or botica that I know will convert from a touchline kick. 9 goals on friday night, and those statistics in the matchday programme speaks for itself. not a GREAT game last friday with the kicking but since hes been here he's becoming an instant wonder.

Wigan could try and buy him from Cronulla but I don't think it would work as he played for Canberra.

Wigan could try to sign him like we try to sign any other player but I think Canberra would try and keep hold of him as he is a good player and they need new player to replace some of the older player who will be retiring soon. Also Dobson himself might be thinking of Origin or even Aus in the future and playing in England wouldn't help that.

Well, I've said a couple of times that I've been so impressed with him that I'd be prepared to sacrifice one of the imports to accommodate him, rather than take the chance on another unknown quantity. Would he himself perhaps be interested in the chance to play alongside Trent Barrett? Surely it would be very tempting... And remember that Barrett and Bailey (and Fletch for that matter) were all "signed" (assuming that all the paperwork is done for Barrett and Bailey) before Noble was appointed, I wonder if there are any get-out clauses from the club's perspective if Nobby changes his mind?

If he wanted to stay and we could keep him i'm all for sacrificing Bailey :D I like Fletch and i'd like to see what Barrett can do for us. But i'm pretty sure Dobbo wants to make it back home, he's just taken SL as a chance to gain experience. But then again he could go home for 2 years or so then come back :D For a guy who hasnt made the team back home, hes a talent going to waste if he's just a reserve!

Wasn't Baily signed after Noble was appointed?

A quick google search says you are correct, although it's difficult to know whether negotiations started before Nobby arrived or not. These things take a long time, so he may not have been involved in the original decision to sign Bailey.
