I think it is Lockers (30+ every game), they should nickname him the head hunter

Somebody told me Luke O'Donnell has the perfect tackle technique. From the past, Trevor Gillmeister, David Gillepsie, Steve Folkes are people I remember as great tacklers. Many Wiganers rate Dennis Boyd too. Ian Roberts is the best I have seen for Wigan. Ian Potter was great too.

Pound for pound, Danny Orr is very effective. Not much goes through him, and his technique seems good also. Gary Connely was a very good defensive player although, not sure about the best tackler.

I'll start with Nathan Hindmarsh. Anyone agree?

Steel Retchless was awesome for London Broncos.

I think both Danny Orr and Mick Cassidy have brilliant technique, get them low and bring them down on the spot.

The likes of Sonny Bill Williams are good with the initial hit using the shoulder.

Whilst some don't rate him I do think Sean O'Loughlin is by far our best tackler. I'm not sure how many penalties he gave away on Friday, but the week before it was 2, which was 1 per 19 tackles made. Did anyone see the tackle he made in front of the South Stand about 10-15 metres out? Brilliant.

Rob you are spot on. My definition of a great tackler is that 1 v 1 he can stop anybody and Lockers does that. My funniest moment with Connolly is actually when he played for Bath. some giant forward ran straight at him and thought he would run straight over him. Suffice to say the big lump of lard was left dazed on the floor.

I think the original post was about current players - which is probably slightly easier than going through all the past players (of which Connolly was definitely one).

I don't watch a great deal of NRL these days, but Danny Buderus always impresses me, as does Dane Carlaw of Brisbane.

For us, Danny Orr would definitely be up there - that early hit on Andy Coley set the whole tone of the game. For sheer number of tackles, O'Loughlin.
At other SL clubs, Alker, Thackray, Ellis, and Cayless.

I remember Fielden running straight at Connolly thinking he was going to flatten him,but was left wondering what had hit him.
Lockers despite what the idiots on here think, is our best tackler, but I agree with Flash that Nathan Hindmarsh is the worlds best tackler by a mile.
