Best RL Coach

Post by NTA1 »

There have been some great coaches over the years, but sadly none are given the recognition that football managers are.

Which Coach would you see as the best or has been the most memorable during your life.

In mine there are:

Alex Murphy
Graham Lowe
John Monie
Dougie Laughton

And Andy Goodway. Easily the best coaches we've had in the Superleague era...

Does anyone remember John Dorahay, he got some stick at the time even though he did win at Wembley. I remember him on the podium at Central Park when the players brought back the Challenge Cup, he was wearing a T-shirt that said on it

I did it my way!

This had some reference to the fact that no one liked his style of coaching.

He left the club after that final.

Just look at us now, a Challenge Cup final win with Lindsay as coach would be welcome now.

How fickle was we back then, it was taken for granted we would win but we wanted to win in a certain style.

I think we had such a good team back then they virtually coached themselves and Dorahy-who had had run ins with various Wigan players when a player himself for Halifax and was following a hard act in Monie-tried to change too much and impose his personality on matters when not necessary.

His tussle with Jack Robinson on the Wembley coach and graceless winning speeches-"To all you doubters suck!" sealed his fate

It's clear you were there on that day at Central park. I'm I right?
