Latest news is saying that Brian's bones have not healed properly and he could be out for another three months. That takes his comeback into August.
I guess this opens the door for Desi Williams to have a prolonged run in the side, but Miek Gregory also has other options as Aspinwall is facing a fitness test early next week after a hamstring injury.
Ruined my day that news
I was getting used to the idea of not having in the team for the final but to have him out for another 3 months is awful. Hes such a boost to the team and the fans, hope hes back sooner than that
Gutted...poor guy bet he's not impressed I really hope we get Aspinwall or Hodgson back then before the CCF I dont think we'll stand much chance with Desi on the wing...dont want to have him covered by one of the others such as Rads as it takes him out of place then.
he has to have another operation doesnt he?? i well hope aspinwalls on because williams isnt that good and if he does what he did at castleford we will loose
It's not really that hes not good because we haven't seen enough of him to decide that yet, he's just unexperienced and I'm not sure if hes ready for a big derby final yet.
The saints fans will have seen the mistakes he made and know his weaknesses, and we all know what the atmosphere is like at a wigan saints match.
He'll be alright taking the ball near the wigan end but if he's waiting for a high ball near a load of scousers then we've conceded 4 points.
I remember when just prior to the CCF all you got was mis-information. Trying to fool the opposition that your best players were injured. I wish this was the case with Carney this time.
If not why have we 'come clean' so early so as to give stains the chance to practice the high ball into the corner for the next 9 days, on the off chance desi gets the sniff of a game? :conf:
In the last CC final the only injury doubt was Radders and he was only cleared to play the same day as the final having been given pain killers! Can't see there being any mind games with Carney, but hope your right.
On the subject of being weak on the wing though Ainscough let Saints in for 2 tries as i remember, but we still won. He redeemed himself with a try saving interception at the end though.
Yeah, we've pointed out Williams' frailties, but what about his good attributes? He is youthful, fit enough to play for 80 minutes, he is a strong lad, gets good metres before being tackled, he's keen to accept the ball and run.
Against London (and Cas) he was taking the ball from acting half back and ran at their approaching line. Especially against London he was making good yards.
