When it seemed Wigan could not even buy a win a couple of months ago, conspiracy theories abounded as to how an excuse to keep them in Super League would be concocted.
Yet if the Rugby Football League are desperate to keep Wigan in the competition at any cost they are going about it in a funny way.

conspiracy theories...
Re: conspiracy theories...
Whist I accept the punishment, what I find a bit annoying is the timimg. I thought that the books went for auditing in November? If so, why does it take 9 months to make an announcement. It could be argued it won't impact upon the team selection process but it could for some clubs. For example, if Huddersfield were being docked 2 points then the match with Wigan would be more of a relegation battle and they would be less likely to rest players before the cup game. I recall the deduction of points from Saints and Halifax being much earlier in the season.
Reading what I've written sounds like a whinge, and I suppose it is in a way. If I feel despondent then the players are bound to. I'm sure BN will have them in the right frame of mind for Friday and it's all the more important that we get a good following over there. I expect there will be some jeering and taunts of 'cheats' but we've got to shout for the team even louder than ever this Friday.

(Again!) The results of the salary cap audit for our competition have always been announced mid-season. For Wakey it was the end of July 2001 (their appeal was heard on 9th August 2001), for Stains and the others it was sometime in May (can't rememember what I wrote on the first of several times I've answered this question in the last day or so...!)superleague posted:that is what i was thinking why deducts us now and not before the season started like the nrl have done with nz warriors :conf:sedbergh posted:

That thought had occurred to me too, or maybe a mini-Salary Cap Fiasco FAQ...!GeoffN posted:

Maybe just a sticky for a week or two, until the next exciting installment in the ongoing saga that is 2006?
Re: conspiracy theories...
Do none of you realise just what is entailed in an audit. It isn't just a matter of totting up a few figures. Every detail of income and expenditure has to be thoroughly checked and interviews made with club officials. After which the accounts are then prepared, draft accounts agreed and then finally the final accounts are agreed. This takes a lot of time especially with a large audit. The auditors are not at fault for the delay - try getting everyone together for a meeeting especially when Maurice is at his races.sedbergh posted:

Yeah, but we're not Saints. The board have brought us down to the level of those cheating scum, and that's what annoys me.WiganWarrior posted:
