I don't think he could have got anyone singing his praises tonight, the offsides frustrated me whilst others were frustrated for the penalties he was giving. He could have given a lot more. However, in these conditions the play-the-ball slows down and the defensive line gets to the man a lot faster.

I was disappointed that he didn't get the captains over for a word and then threaten with the sin bin.

I don't think either coach has reason to feel hard done to with the decisions (or perhaps both should feel hard done by?). I think he allowed both teams some leeway, especially with offsides (we were off as much as them).

The Richard's tackle in the air incident, cpwigan, could have been classed as two players going for the ball so we can give him that one.

More than the referee though, my main grumble is panic play in terrible weather conditions.

From BBC online -

#
Huddersfield coach Jon Sharp (on referee Karl Kirkpatrick)

"We felt we were playing against 14 people. I'm pretty pumped up about it and the players are devastated and I will be speaking to the powers that be."

"I thought the attitude was fantastic and you couldn't say the cup final was on anyone's mind.

"I thought they put their bodies on the line and were very good."

And I thought Karl was on their side!

Rob I have to disagree. Richards claimed the ball easily with nobody else having their hands near the ball. The Hudds player had his arms around Richards body and was tackling him.

Only saw it once mind you :D

I personally thought they both jumped for the ball, just Richards jumped a lot higher. I suppose we'll never know so we'll just have to agree that I'm right and you're wrong

Well I hope they don't play with the same 'attitude' next week, I'm paying money to watch them play Saints, I don't want to see them get demolished.

To be fair though, had the conditions been drier both sides would have played better, though I think we'd have run away with it.

On ITV1 ceefax it says the following:

"Huddersfield coach John Sharp is unhappy at referee Karl Fitzpatrick". It might as well have been Fitzpatrick the way Berkpatrick performed tonight.

Oh my, what about the numerous times Hudds were offside. Not to mention other, repeated offences which wern't called.

Kirkpatrick had a stinker tonight - but hey, how many times have we played against the ref this season....it could drive you to drink!
If there are a number of Aussie refs looking at coming into Superleague next year then I for one would welcome them.

As for Jon Sharp.....did he watch the same game as us tonight & did he learn to grumble like that at Stains? :sly:
