Discuss all things Wigan Warriors. Comments and opinions on all aspects of the club's performance are welcome.

But they aren't. All the Saints fans I've talked to (quite a lot) and the Saints fans on their message boards, are fully in support of the decision, even the ones who went to france.

Well i live in St Helens and most of the people i have spoken to say they are glad they did'nt go to France because they would have been well p!ssed off if they had spent all that money to watch a team that they could pay next to nothing to watch during the week in an acadamy game,
Maybe the people you have spoken to have more money than sense, but having said that the Stains lot should be used to tactics like this, Wigan V Stains a few years ago, Bradford V Stains (betting scandal) and now France, as i said in my earlier post, defend them all you want but don't expect everyone to agree with it.
If Wigan did it i would be very upset after spending all that money.

Maybe that is because they see any questioning of their clubs actions as an attack on their club and are defending it being rather touchy to any negative talk concerning putting out weak squads?

I think Dawber is spot on. I would argue that Saints should pert refund anybody who went to support them in France.

Personally, I'd be quite happy if we did it in a similar situation, and I won't object in the slightest if Hull do it for our last game, if they're in a position to rest players for the playoffs.

I think Wakefield Cas and possibly Hudds would be up in arms if they did this

Maybe so Geoff but that's taking a very insular viewpoint. Is that in the best interests of Rugby League? I personally don't think so. I have no objection to resting injured players or even extending the sick note to cover the odd one nursing bumps and bruises but the wholesale changes as implemented by Saints has implications beyond the actions of this one game. The fixture as announced at the start of the season was Les catalans v St Helens, not Les Catalans v St Helens Academy which would have resulted in completely different ticket sales.
That is exactly what i said in my post, the people that went to that game had already booked tickets/flights and hotels well in advance, it's not as if it was just up the m62 ? i think the majority of that crowd would have stayed away if they had not already paid for tickets, people on here have said that they have spoken to Stains fans who went and said they are happy with the team they put out, garbage, i had both sides of the coin as i live in St Helens, one side was "those kids did us proud" and the other "I'm bloody glad i did'nt spend all that money to watch a bunch of kids",
Basically not everyone was happy with the side that took to the field,
I wonder how many people on here would be happy if Wigan had done the same thing?

What people need to do is forget what is in the best interests of a single club and concentrate upon what is best for the game as a whole. That is the mandate of the governing body, the RFL.

Fielding sub standard teams and devaluing fixtures is not in the best interests of the whole game. It irks supporters, reduces attendances, annoys/alienates sponsors, reduces potential sponsorship potential in terms of the sports value. Long term, such actions have an adverse impact upon the sport.

If you find a St Helens fans who says he was in favour of what his club did. Ask him is he for or against the salary cap. If he says yes then ask him why, if he alludes that it is in the whole games interest, tell him he is a hypocrite. If he called Wigan a cheat over the salary cup you can have even more fun with him.

The RFL has failed badly. It is fat too arbitary in its decision making.
