Wrong. Like him or not he is one of our biggest talents. On the plus side if this move happens maybe we will see a change in the cap whereby clubs are allowed to safely spend a percentage of their turnover instead of being reined in by the lack of commercial success of smaller clubs.ste lord posted:

To be honest I think that it would be a good thing if a couple of league "stars" were poached by union. Maybe then the RFL would see how stifling the salary cap is.
Players only have about 10 years to make enough money to provide for themselves - so they realistically have to go where they can get the most money (minus a few noticable exceptions). Union to my knowledge is not constrained by a cap; therefore big clubs (provided they have it) can offer more money to land big names.
If a few players went to Union; then maybe the RFL would extend the cap and 20/20 so that teams can spend a percentage of their income with a much higher upper level. Additional benefits should be given to clubs with a decent academy set up - as opposed to teams that are happy to import players and buy other teams cast offs.
Personally I don't think that Leon Pryce will be going to Union after what he said about RU headquarters prior to the CC final...

I can see your thinking Matthew and I wish it would be the case but it will not be so. Far too many in RL believe the salary cap is a panacea for all the sports problems. It is not, but they will not move.
If we lose these two players it will be a blow to the sport. Yes, I know Pryce did some nasty incidents but I have watched plenty in Wigan colours and every other club colours do likewise.

Re: karl and leon goin uni...
Yes they still have central contracts.
I have to say I know players have to look after themselves financially but I read Lote Tquiri recently saying union simply does not compare to league and very often he gets incredibly bored and frustrated waiting / longing for a pass, an opportunity to run.
I have always felt the rules of union inherently award an unfair advantage to safety first play, kicking both for position and points. They keep trying to chnge the rules to be more league like but there comes a time when if they carry on doing so why bother having union at all.

Opposed though I am to the salary cap, is it not just the case that players who switch codes often just want a fresh challenge and a bit of fame and has nothing to do with money (e.g.Faz and Jason) ? Jason Robinson is now a national figure rather than someone who is fairly well known in about four northern cities and a bit of Australia, it's going to become a much bigger problem I think and unlike when the player drain really kicked in in Welsh rugby union in the late 80s/early 90s there will be no obvious way to stop it
