Maybe not.
If rumours are true, then we may be playing an extra game to cover the Cardiff weekend. After all, the players had an easy enough season last year (including the tri-nations)! :conf:

I don't think there was an extra league game i.e. the Cardiff one. That has been taken form the usual 14.

I don't like it due to my own personal circumstances which I have mentioned when this has been debated before. So no I don't like the fact it sounds like I will be denied the home derby game. I don't appreciate paying more for less games either. Which you will as well if you are a season ticket holder if you go to Cardiff or not.

But I also don't like it because by the sound of it the club will lose a fortune in gate money which could affect our salary cap and it will lose home advantage against the best side in the competition.

The money side of it is a real issue because clubs spend right up to the cap and a loss of projected income from that gate is equivalent to a good players salary. Perhaps that is why we have not signed a third recognised prop forward?

If the idea is to attract Welsh people then who plays who does not matter. The derbies are being used to blackmail existing loyal supporters.

From a personal point of view, I like the idea of the game in Cardiff. A nice weekend away with plenty of rugby league to watch, Perfect if you ask me!

As for the rise in season ticket price (per game), we can't complain really as they were kept static last season and it's still very good value for money.

As for the salary cap side of things... I think that's just an excuse for people to have a moan about something that doesn't affect them. How does the salary cap affect a single person on this message board?

I'm sure that Wigan will have discussed all this with the RFL but personally I can't see how the loss of less than one home game (revenue from Saints home game less revenue from Cardiff game) would tip us over the edge.

If, using logic similar to Fraggle's, Wigan bring in £130k per game this means ticket prices bring in between £1.69m and £1.82m. This does not account for sale of merchandise (£1.5m = 12,000 adult home shirts + 12,000 adult away shirts + 10,000 tracksuits/hoodies + 10,000 t-shirts), and still I've neglected things like match day sales, programmes, souvenirs. I don't see that we, as fans, have anything to worry about. The RFL wouldn't make it impossible for the richest clubs to meet their saraly cap restrictions.

Salary cap isn't an issue. We could pay double our wages and still be operating below 50% of turnover. This would still mean we were in no danger of going bust, which is what the salary cap was initially brought in for before it was changed into a method of holding back successful clubs.

Wigan can hardly go bust anyway due to Whelans fortune behind us. £400 million fortune last I read online.

Even if we didnt have Whelan, Wigan would still probably be the richest club in super league purely from the fanbase etc...
